Small-Mid Size Trucking Company (50–100 Trucks | Multiple Business Entities)

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant / Financial Analyst to support the financial operations of a growing trucking and transportation company operating multiple business entities. This role is responsible for accounting functions, financial reporting, operational analysis, fleet cost tracking, and supporting executive decision-making across dry van, flatbed, bulk hauling, and related transportation operations.
The ideal candidate understands transportation accounting, fleet operations, fuel and maintenance cost analysis, and can work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management
- Manage daily accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger maintenance
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, fuel accounts, and intercompany transactions
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple business entities
- Maintain accurate records for fixed assets, depreciation schedules, leases, and equipment financing
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes
- Coordinate with external CPA firms, auditors, lenders, and tax professionals
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements including IFTA and sales/use tax reporting
Operational & Financial Analysis
- Analyze profitability by truck, lane, customer, terminal, and business division
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) including:
- Revenue per mile
- Cost per mile
- Fuel efficiency
- Driver productivity
- Equipment utilization
- Maintenance expense trends
- Prepare weekly and monthly management reports for ownership and operations leadership
- Assist with pricing analysis, freight rate modeling, and contract profitability reviews
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational inefficiencies
Fleet & Transportation Support
- Review fuel, toll, maintenance, and repair expenses for accuracy and trends
- Work closely with dispatch, operations, and safety departments to ensure accurate reporting
- Assist with driver settlement reviews and owner-operator payment reconciliation
- Support equipment purchasing and financing analysis
Multi-Entity Administration
- Maintain financial separation and reporting accuracy across multiple related companies
- Manage intercompany accounting and reconciliations
- Assist ownership with consolidated reporting and financial visibility across entities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of accounting or financial analysis experience
- Transportation, logistics, or trucking industry experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting principles
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with accounting software and TMS platforms preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- High level of integrity and confidentiality

- Trucking or logistics industry accounting
- Multi-entity accounting environments
- Fleet cost analysis and operational reporting
- QuickBooks, McLeod, TMW, PCS, or similar transportation/accounting systems
- Fuel tax reporting (IFTA)
- Equipment financing and lease accounting

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to remain in a stationary position for 90 percent of the time while operating their computer and performing office work. The individual needs to occasionally move about inside the office. They constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and computer printer. They must be able to exchange accurate information with customers and others in the office while interacting. The individual must be capable of reviewing their work for errors and adjusting as necessary.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
