Accounts Payable Accountant

Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Accountant to join our finance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing the company’s accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices, and maintaining strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders. Your expertise in financial software, accounting principles, and compliance standards will help uphold our commitment to financial integrity and operational excellence. Responsibilities

  • Process and verify all incoming invoices using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Workday, ensuring adherence to company policies and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies promptly through effective communication with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Prepare and record accurate journal entries related to accounts payable transactions, including debits & credits, ensuring proper documentation for audit purposes.
  • Manage the entire invoice approval cycle, collaborating with relevant departments to secure necessary authorizations.
  • Maintain detailed records of accounts payable transactions, perform account reconciliations regularly, and ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls.
  • Support month-end closing activities by reviewing accrued liabilities and assisting with general ledger reconciliation.
  • Assist with audits by providing necessary documentation related to accounts payable activities and ensuring data integrity within financial software systems like PeopleSoft or Ceridian.
  • Contribute to process improvements by identifying opportunities for automation using tools such as ADP, Kronos, or UltiPro.
  • Support benefits administration and payroll management tasks when required, leveraging HRIS systems like Workday or SAP.

Experience

  • Proven experience in accounts payable functions within a corporate or public accounting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting concepts including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and general ledger accounting.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Workday, or similar platforms; familiarity with Paychex or ADP is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform account reconciliation, journal entries, and data entry efficiently while maintaining high accuracy standards.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements and internal controls related to financial reporting.
  • Excellent analysis skills with the ability to interpret financial data accurately for decision-making purposes.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting or non-profit accounting is advantageous but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
