As an Activities Technician, on the at the Utah State Hospital, you will work under the direction of a licensed recreational therapist to implement individualized recreation therapy treatment programs and activities at this facility.

Key Responsibilities


Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:

  • Plan, prepare, and implement leisure activities for the residents at the Utah State Hospital.
    Work directly with the Patients, staff, and Recreation Therapy staff, and train direct care staff on leisure activities.
  • Develop new ideas and contribute to Utah State Hospital recreational programs.
  • Monitors and observes patients; records and reports patient’s client’s conditions, progress, behaviors, activity, etc.
  • Implement individualized recreation therapy treatment programs and activities under the direction of a licensed recreational therapist.
  • Prepares and recommends therapeutic recreation, leisure education, and diversionary recreation activities for individual clients, groups and units, and treatment mall.
  • Monitors and observes patients; records and reports patient’s client’s conditions, progress, behaviors, activity, etc.
  • Be an effective member of the clinical/discipline treatment team.
  • Assist RT Director with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A TRT (Therapeutic Recreation Technician) certification, or able to obtain TRT (Therapeutic Recreation Technician) license within 12 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has professional experience working with mentally ill patients/clients.
  • Has professional work experience in a direct patient care setting for mentally ill patients or clients.
  • Enthusiasm and who understands and is passionate about how recreation benefits people's lives.

About the Role

An Activities Technician plans, prepares, and implements leisure activities for individuals at the institutions. Works under the direction of a licensed Recreational Therapist. Monitors and observes behavioral patterns and functions of individuals or patients. Prepares and recommends therapeutic recreation and leisure education for individual clients, groups and units, and treatment mall. May train direct care staff on leisure activities.
