Job Summary

Base pay for this position will be dependent on qualifications

The Sheriff’s Office provides public safety at all times and therefore every position is deemed essential. All positions are in-person and not eligible for remote work. Every position is also subject to recall based on the needs of the Office to keep the community safe.

This position has an anticipated work schedule of:
Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm, subject to change.

This position is responsible for case management, client treatment, client participation, and discharge planning for incarcerated clients at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center (CJC) receiving Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) or who have a substance use disorder. This position is subject to grant funding.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provides case management utilizing intervention, therapy, rehabilitation, support services, and continuing care strategies to the degree indicated by client assessments and needs, which are specific, goal-focused, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-limited. Assess and diagnose individuals for substance use disorders.
  • Facilitate substance abuse therapy and psychoeducation groups. Maintain Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) client enrollment and case management compliance, including administrative documentation requirements, assessment and evaluation completion, intake summaries, admission summaries, individualized client service plans, treatment notes, client contact notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Assess and assist clients with discharge and aftercare planning for medication continuity of care, housing, employment, medical, education, and public services.
  • Monitor transitioned clients’ compliance with community collaborations, criminal justice mandates, sobriety, independent living, and employment.
  • Perform data entry, statistical gathering, formulation, reporting, and documentation of clinical services.
  • Assist in strategic planning, research, and documentation for clients’ aftercare, current and up to one year after discharge.
  • Instruct and develop a variety of curriculum specific to client needs.
  • Develop and present on the EPSO Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) program to various organizations and stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of case management, community mental health and substance abuse services.
  • Must be honest, truthful, trustworthy, and possess personal integrity.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to assess situations and make practical and appropriate decisions by applying conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to efficiently plan, schedule, and organize.
  • Must be able to provide professional, courteous, and responsive customer service in all interactions.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and when confronted with people acting under stress.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in coursework in a behavioral health concentration or human services equivalent.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Experience in criminal justice or a related field.
Licenses/Certificates:
  • Must possess and maintain Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or Addiction Counselor Candidate (ADDC) or Certified Addiction Technician (CAT) or Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) in good standing with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.
  • Must be in compliance with the Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) standards and in accordance with Addiction Counselor Certification and License Standards.
  • Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, Tuberculosis testing, and drug screen.

Work Conditions

Duties are performed in an office environment in a correctional/detention facility. May encounter some hazards to personal safety through contact with potentially violent incarcerated citizens. Must be available to work variable hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed. Sheriff’s Office employees must complete tuberculosis testing as applicable to the specific position prior to job assignment and periodic testing thereafter.
