The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is seeking experienced engineers, laboratory specialists, researchers, and technical professionals to join the School of Engineering as Adjunct Laboratory Engineers.

We are building a pool of talented professionals to support undergraduate laboratory teaching across a range of engineering disciplines including:

  • Civil Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Mechatronics Engineering

  • Computer & Communications Engineering

  • Physics and Engineering Fundamentals

  • Manufacturing & Materials Engineering

These appointments are ideal for professionals who wish to combine industry practice with higher education and contribute to the development of future engineers through practical, hands-on learning experiences.

Adjunct Laboratory Engineers play a critical role in delivering the practical components of engineering education. Working alongside academic staff, you will support laboratory sessions, demonstrations, experiments, and project-based learning activities while ensuring safe and effective operation of laboratory facilities.

Key Responsibilities


Laboratory Teaching Support

  • Prepare and set up laboratory experiments and demonstrations.

  • Support students during laboratory classes and practical sessions.

  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance.

  • Assist with assessment, practical reports, and project activities where required.

Laboratory Operations

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and technical resources.

  • Ensure laboratories are safe, organised, and operational.

  • Support calibration, inventory management, and procurement activities.

  • Maintain laboratory documentation, records, and operating procedures.

Student & Academic Support

  • Assist students with experimentation, data collection, and analysis.

  • Support final-year projects, prototypes, and engineering investigations.

  • Collaborate with academic staff to enhance laboratory experiences and practical learning outcomes.

Selection criteria – Qualifications, Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills


We are interested in candidates who bring both technical expertise and a passion for engineering education.

Essential Requirements

✅ Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline

✅ Practical experience in laboratory, technical, testing, research, or engineering environments

✅ Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving capability

✅ Ability to support students in practical and laboratory settings

✅ Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline

  • Professional engineering registration or certification

  • Experience working in higher education, research laboratories, testing facilities, or industrial technical environments

  • Experience operating specialist laboratory equipment relevant to your discipline

  • Experience with engineering software, simulation tools, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems
