About the Role

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) invites applications from suitably qualified academics and industry professionals for the position of Adjunct Lecturer to teach the undergraduate subject FIN330: Alternative Assets.

As the financial landscape shifts beyond traditional stocks and bonds, we are looking for an expert who can bridge the gap between academic theory and the rapidly evolving world of alternative investments.

About the Subject:

In this pivotal subject, you will guide students through the complexities of non-traditional asset classes. The curriculum moves beyond the basics, examining:

  • Hedge Funds & Private Equity: Strategy, structure, and performance.
  • Real Estate & Infrastructure: The backbone of tangible asset investment.
  • Cryptocurrency & Derivatives: Navigating the digital frontier and risk management tools.
  • Liquidity Risk: A critical focus on how liquidity impacts performance measurement.
Key Responsibilities:

As the lecturer for FIN330, you will not just lecture; you will facilitate an immersive learning experience. Your goal is to ensure students can evaluate risk-return profiles and understand the strategic role of alternatives in a diversified portfolio.

  • Deliver engaging lectures and tutorials that simplify complex financial instruments.
  • Train students on industry-standard software to evaluate financial performance.
  • Mentor students in defining and valuing various financial derivative instruments.
  • Assess student learning through practical, real-world investment scenarios.
About You

We are looking for an individual who is as comfortable with a Bloomberg terminal or industry analytical tools as they are in a classroom.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Academic Excellence: PhD in Finance, Investment, or a related field
  • Industry Insight: Proven experience in the finance sector, specifically dealing with private equity, hedge funds, or digital assets.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in industry software used for asset analysis and performance evaluation.
  • Communicator: The ability to inspire students and articulate the nuanced differences between traditional and alternative investment paths.
Compensation and Benefits

The successful candidate will enjoy interaction with a professional dynamic team of highly respected educators from more than 50 different countries and exposure to students from over 100 nationalities.

The University offers adjunct lecturers at undergraduate level a compensation of AED 9,000/- per lecture for the trimester. This covers teaching, grading and providing subject consultation for students. The University is located in Knowledge Park, Dubai and has excellent teaching, learning and research facilities as well as a Library that meets international standards.
