Adjunct Professor in Kanun

The Performing Arts Program at the American University of Sharjah invites applications for the position of Adjunct Professor of Qanun (Kanun) , beginning Spring 2026 semester (January). We seek an accomplished performer and educator to teach applied qanun (private lessons and small group instruction) and potentially contribute to the Arabic Music Ensemble and related performance courses.

Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Music or a related field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred.

Demonstrated expertise as a qanun performer with an active professional profile (concerts, recordings, collaborations).

Prior teaching experience at the university or conservatory level is strongly preferred.

Broad knowledge of Arab maqam traditions; ability to situate qanun within diverse performance contexts.

Strong communication skills and commitment to undergraduate teaching.
