Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides managerial support to department chair on fiscal and administrative issues. This includes collecting, coordinating, and communicating fiscal processing information, and critical deadlines from administration to chair and faculty, and serve as fiscal communication link for the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR), the CTAHR Fiscal Office, University of Hawai'i Foundation (UHF) and the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai'i (RCUH).
  • Provides administrative support in the review and preparation of grant proposals and modifications.
  • Maintains budget account information in accordance with established requirements to ensure that data is adequate for their intended use and prepares it in a timely manner. This includes timely monitoring, feedback, and preparation of fiscal reports to assist chair, department staff and faculty in fiscal and administrative management of the department and grant funds.
  • Prepares short- and long- term financial plans relating to contracts and grants and department operating accounts.
  • Assist department chair and CTAHR Fiscal Office by seeking information and solutions to resolve fiscal and administrative problems
  • Collects statistical data to prepare various administrative reports relating to program/project operations and administration.
  • Provides work assignments to technical personnel and student help.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business, accounting, or related field and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for business administration; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of business and/or fiscal management demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with business management.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of departmental administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Ability to facilitate interdisciplinary teams in developing budget for proposals.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to recommend, develop and implement fiscal organization and management.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Some experience with UH, RCUH and federal budget requirements.
