The incumbent of this position serves as an executive assistant to the Corrections Warden 4 of Elayn Hunt Correctional Center. As the first line assistant to the Warden of this facility, the incumbent is expected to perform administrative assignments of a confidential and highly complex nature on a daily basis. To be successful at this task, the incumbent must maintain a working knowledge of Department of Corrections Regulations and Institutional Policies which relate to the overall function and operation of this facility.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in administrative services.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:


  • Serve as a confidential liaison to the Warden. As a member of the facility’s executive staff, the incumbent will attend private meetings, receive and communicate (orally and in writing) highly sensitive and confidential information, and be solely responsible for maintaining confidential materials.
  • The incumbent screens all mail and phone calls on behalf of the Warden and determines what should be delivered to the Warden and what can be handled by the various Division/Department Heads. This includes exercising judgment in referring inmate-related calls, such as complaints or emergencies, to the proper Division Head for handling and ensuring a timely response to such calls. In screening calls, the incumbent must act as an administrative liaison between the Warden and DOC officials, institutional personnel and department heads, attorneys, inmates’ families, law enforcement officials, elected state officials, and other state agencies.
  • Incumbent serves as the payroll officer for the Warden’s Office and is responsible for reporting and maintaining payroll documentation on the Warden and assigned staff.
  • Provide functional supervision to clerical staff that is directly supervised by Deputy Wardens and Assistant Wardens. Proofreads all letters, reports, and/or forms prepared by other offices that require the Warden’s signature. Make independent decisions for those that may require revision in accordance with the Warden’s philosophy.

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
