This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health Crafts-Farrow, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Administrative Coordinator I, under limited supervision by the Chief of Forensic Processing, you will manage and conduct legal and administrative functions of the Forensic Treatment Services.

Responsibilities for the Administrative Coordinator I:
  • Obtain, organize and process legal documents, admission documents and other case documents. This function includes but is not limited to acquiring legal records and scanning orders and reports into the proper database
  • Serve as the legal liaison between Forensic Treatment Services and outside entities including probate court. judges. solicitors, defense attorneys, law enforcement and Attorney Generals' office when appropriate. The function includes but is not limited to resolving issues with improper orders, correspondence with officers of the court as well as NGRI admissions and discharges.
  • Follow up with attorneys to obtain the necessary orders for the next stage of the forensic process. Document all communications with attorneys including dates, responses, etc.
  • Supervise, direct and manage administrative assistants
  • Provide assistance and coverage as needed to administrative staff and Patient Movement Coordinator
  • Comply with Corporate Compliance, Harassment Free Workplace, time and attendance policies. Demonstrate cultural and age specific competence

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A high school diploma and relevant experience in business management, public administration, or administrative services or a bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate of a paralegal curriculum approved by the SC Bar Association.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

  • Extensive knowledge through work experience and/or formal education of the SC Code of Laws, particularly those that pertain directly to mental health issues. including timeframes, procedures and mandated for the specific program in Forensics.
