Job Duties:

The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney is responsible for prosecuting violations of the criminal laws of Virginia in the City of Virginia Beach. We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Administrative Technician to join our team. This role provides vital administrative and technical support to ensure the smooth operation of personnel, budgetary, and office functions within our office.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing, revising, and posting job requisitions.

  • Supporting the recruitment process, including completing candidate matrices, organizing interviews and panels, conducting reference checks, and monitoring applicants through the pre-employment process using Taleo Recruit.

  • Coordinating onboarding and orientation for new hires.

  • Assisting with the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, including advising management of projected overages/shortages and recommending corrective actions.

  • Coordinating procurement and purchasing activities in compliance with City policies to ensure office needs are met.

  • Serving as liaison with the City and office staff regarding payroll functions in VBTime.

  • Processing personnel, time, and leave actions in the City’s enterprise software system (i.e. InSite and Taleo).

  • Processing military leave requests in accordance with City and federal guidelines.

  • Providing information to employees regarding worker’s compensation.

  • Providing information and processing Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) cases.

  • Processing requests such as reclassifications, above-minimum hires, and job audits.

  • Maintaining accurate employee, recruiting, and training files (digital and physical files).

  • Establishing and maintaining databases or spreadsheets; generating reports to support management decision-making.


Preferences for this position include:

  • Previous administrative support experience in a government, legal, or criminal justice environment

  • Prior professional experience in the criminal justice field

  • Demonstrated experience in budget tracking

  • Professional experience with payroll processing

  • Specialized experience with procurement/purchasing

  • Professional experience in hiring and interviewing

  • Ability to generate clear, concise reports to support management decisions.

  • Data Entry Experience

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to (4) four years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
