Work Schedule:
37.5 hours per week
Must be able to work day, evening, and weekend hours
Must be willing to receive US Department of State Passport Acceptance Agent Training within 90 days of hire & actively participate in passport services.

Pay Rate:

$57,934.50 - $92,703.00 annually plus benefits
The initial compensation for this position generally falls between $57,934.50 and $60,831.23, contingent upon relevant experience and qualifications.

Job Summary:
Manages, directs, and participates in the daily operations and activities of the Adult Department in a full-service library, including supervision of assigned staff, collection maintenance, programming, and information service; performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:
  • Manages and directs daily operations and activities of the Adult Department in a full-service library.
  • Supervises, schedules, trains, coaches, and evaluates the work of assigned staff.
  • Assists in the selection process of assigned staff.
  • Reviews and approves timesheets of assigned staff.
  • Plans and conducts programs.
  • Manages multiple customers according to system standards.
  • Weeds, replaces, and adds materials to branch collection as necessary and according to system guidelines and schedules.
  • Maintains knowledge of collections and current literature, concentrating on the adult collection, but with knowledge of children’s and teen materials.
  • Establishes and maintains contacts with schools and community organizations.
  • Speaks to groups about library services.
  • Develops, creates, and arranges displays according to branch procedures.
  • Greets customers and responds to information and reader’s advisory requests using model reference and reader’s advisory behaviors.
  • Maintains current knowledge of information sources and search tools to assist customers.
  • Processes customers’ requests for materials.
  • Provides courteous and timely customer service.
  • Submits needs for equipment, repairs, and/or improvements to appropriate staff person.
  • Prepares and submits all reports as assigned.
  • Makes branch bank deposits as needed, which may include use of an employee’s personal vehicle.
  • Acts as Librarian in Charge.
  • Enforces library behavior guidelines and evicts customers as appropriate.
  • Performs basic circulation tasks.
  • Participates in meetings, teams/committees/workgroups, outreach activities and training opportunities, as appropriate.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, professional affiliations etc.
  • May act as Passport agent and process passport applications.
  • Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Maintains Maryland Professional Public Librarian Certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of information and reader’s advisory services.
  • Thorough and current knowledge of information sources and search tools.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of collection development and maintenance.
  • Thorough knowledge of all CCPL policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to develop and present programs.
  • Ability to act as a representative of the library to the public.
  • Ability to schedule, supervise, assign, train, and evaluate the work of others.
  • Familiar with relevant computer equipment and associated software applications.
  • Commitment to excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Requires 90 contact hours of approved in-service training through Library Associate Training Institute (LATI) within first 2 years of employment or 9 hours of formal academic course work in library science.
  • Three or more years experience, including at least one year of supervisory experience and at least one of which involves working with adults.
  • MLIS degree preferred (LATI not required)
  • Must be willing to receive US Department of State Passport Acceptance Agent Training within 90 days of hire and actively participate in passport services.
