At Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, our pediatric rehabilitation specialists, also known as physiatrists, are experts in caring for children with a wide range of congenital (present at birth) and acquired conditions that cause physical disabilities. We provide a multidisciplinary approach, working collaboratively with pediatric specialists as well as physical, occupational, and speech-language therapists to create individualized care plans tailored to each child’s unique needs. We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Advanced Practice Provider to join our Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team.

Requests for PTO must be made at least 30 days in advance according to OH policy. However, operational needs may require additional notice. PTO requests are granted on a first come first serve basis.

Primary Holiday Coverage will be provided by the physiatrist on call. APP holiday coverage will be requested based on staffing deficits and needs of the service. Holidays are defined as follows by OH policy: 3 minors include Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Majors include Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

Currently Monday to Friday, 5 days per week. Coverage and hours are likely to change as we increase staff and need to meet the demands of the service.

Staffed physiatry physicians primarily provide call coverage; however, Advanced Practice Provider (APP) coverage may be required based on staffing needs or service demands. This may include overnight and weekend call responsibilities. Additional compensation is available for APPs who provide coverage beyond their regular workday hours.

In this role, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will play a vital role in delivering both inpatient and outpatient care for children with conditions that require functional optimization. The focus will be on maximizing independence, enhancing functionality, reducing or eliminating pain, and improving overall quality of life. Additionally, the APP will provide care to an inpatient population of children ages 8–12 at the Orlando Health Advanced Rehabilitation Institute, supporting recovery from chronic illness, surgery, or trauma through personalized rehabilitation in a compassionate, state-of-the-art environment.

Provide comprehensive evaluation and management of pediatric patients in collaboration with the Pediatric Physiatrist, including new patient assessments, hospital and medical follow-ups, and symptom-based consultations. Perform administrative responsibilities such as documentation, scheduling, and front desk support, while triaging phone calls and coordinating care with community physicians and specialists. Assist with coverage for satellite clinics and specialty clinics, including spina bifida and spasticity clinics, as well as other clinics requiring rehabilitation expertise. Educate and counsel patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, post-rehabilitative care, and preventive strategies, while actively engaging in multidisciplinary care coordination with physical, occupational, and speech-language therapists, primary care providers, and other specialties.

Participate in daily rounds with physiatry medical team and assist with patient care across Pediatric Critical Care, Step-Down, and Acute Care floors. Coordinate perioperative care, including social work involvement and specialty consults, while maintaining communication with nursing staff, other APPs, and attending physicians. Provide patient education and support, manage wounds, and perform required bedside procedures. Oversee discharge planning and facilitate multidisciplinary rounds. Responsibilities include order entry, consent management, and documentation of consults and progress notes. Evaluate consults at Arnold Palmer and Winnie Palmer Hospitals, order and interpret imaging and labs, determine disposition, and document consults while staffing with on-call physicians. Schedule outpatient follow-up, prepare discharge paperwork, and facilitate procedural scheduling as needed.

Call requirements currently include two full weeks per month of home call or beeper call. During this time, the APP manages medical and acute issues for admitted pediatric patients (ages 8–12) at the Orlando Health Advanced Rehabilitation Institute. Coverage hours are 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend coverage responsibilities include remote support for medical and medication-related questions for rehabilitation consults at WPH, APH, and OHARI 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Call expectations may change over time based on program growth and patient care needs.

Potential to perform trigger point injections and pulse-dyed laser treatment for complex hypertrophic and burn scars.

Prepare and document minutes for monthly mortality and morbidity meetings. Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist with guideline implementation. Collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and specialists to enhance the quality of rehabilitative care.

Attend and contribute to educational conferences, unit-based quality initiatives and continuing education activities to improve patient care and promote evidence-based practice. Support the education of students, residents, advanced practice provider fellows, and new team members when applicable.

Attend and participate in Neuroscience department meetings and APH Pediatrics Department Meeting. The APP is encouraged to attend medical PIPS review, Pediatric Grand Rounds, and APP fellowship committee meetings when able.
