Advanced Ground Instructor - Aviation

Position Announcement

UVU is seeking dedicated Aviation Ground Instructors who play a vital role in helping flight students master the knowledge and non-flying skills essential to becoming safe, competent aviators. Ground Instructors are valued educators who strengthen students’ understanding of aviation fundamentals, reinforce strong judgment and decision-making, and help create the foundation every successful pilot relies on. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a supportive, safety-driven environment while working closely with students as they advance through their training.


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Conducts ground training of assigned students in authorized training course(s) under the direction of the Chief Instructors and in accordance with department policies. Evaluates student knowledge and provides professional, constructive and accurate feedback of student progress.
  • Regularly reports student training progress as required by the Chief or Assistant Chief Instructor. Maintains complete, accurate and timely records of student training and personal records in accordance with 14 CFR Parts 141 and 61.
  • Maintains proficiency and currency in assigned instructor responsibilities. Attends regular safety meetings and recurrent standardization events. Maintains professionalism and safety in all interactions and responsibilities. Knows, follows, and promotes aviation regulations and UVU Aviation Science policy, procedures, and safety practices. Maintains a personal program of continuing education.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

  • FAA Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Airplane Single-Engine Land, Instrument Airplane, and other ratings applicable to the responsibilities assigned.
  • Current FAA Ground Instructor Certificate with Advanced Ground Instructor rating. Instrument Ground Instructor rating required for placement and teaching in the instrument and commercial courses.

Licenses/Certifications

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, including FAR Part 141.
  • Knowledge of standard operating practices and all applicable information resources.
  • Knowledge required to demonstrate competence in the privileges of the pilot and instructor certificates held.
Skills
  • Must regularly demonstrate competence in ground instruction and student evaluation.
  • Effective teaching skills.
  • Interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Abilities
  • Ability to pass initial and recurrent tests related to instructor duties and standardization requirements.

  • Ability to use computer applications.
