Position Summary:
Join the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) Advanced Manufacturing division at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, where cutting-edge research meets real-world impact. As an Advanced Manufacturing Technician, you'll support advanced manufacturing programs for aircraft sustainment activities. This will include part/repair setup, cold spray deposit generation, testing, and equipment operation, additive manufacturing, and maintenance. The applicant will understand cold spray or other advanced manufacturing processes. Scope of work may involve supporting the design, manufacturing, and testing/validation of hardware and procedures related to cold spray and additive manufacturing technologies. The successful candidate may assist engineers or scientists in testing and developing standards to meet USAF requirements. Additionally, the technician may provide training support to personnel at both local and regional levels. Technicians will be responsible for the deployment of mobile cold spray units in support of the USAF sustainment requirements. Technicians will complete CNC Machining to pre- and post-machining of samples and parts. This candidate will support government customers and their needs for Cold Spray and Additive Manufacturing for the USAF.

Minimum Qualifications:
T2 minimum qualifications:
  • High school graduation or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related technical experience is required.
  • Knowledge of cold spray and additive manufacturing processes.
  • Exposure with CNC metal machining.
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.

T3 minimum qualifications:
  • Employees are expected to be proficient at routine and advanced technical functions in support of a research activity with general supervision.
  • High school graduation or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related technical experience.
Note: Formal technical training beyond high school can be substituted for 2 years of related experience.
  • Exposure with CNC metal machining.
  • Knowledge of mobile cold spray system
  • Knowledge of cold spray processes, additive manufacturing and testing requirements.
  • Knowledge of metal working (machining, fabricating).
  • Knowledge of metal mechanical testing. (i.e.C633, Microscopy, etc.)
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.


Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

T2 preferred qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of related technical experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with cold spray processes.
  • Experience with metal machining.
  • Experience using the mobile cold spray system.
  • Experience with process documents generation for quality standards such as ISO9001 or AS9100.
  • Experience with training and documentation in support of personnel.
  • Experience with build set-up, unpacking and maintenance on Stratasys (F900 and 450MC) and EOS (M290) printers.
  • Experience with Air Force manufacturing processes.

T3 preferred qualifications:
  • Minimum of 8 years of related technical experience.
  • 5 years’ experience with cold spray processes, additive manufacturing and testing requirements/standards.
  • 2 years of experience with metal machining.
  • Expert level knowledge of the mobile cold spray system.
  • Experience with training and documentation in support of personnel.
  • Experience with process documents generation for quality standards such as ISO9001 or AS9100.
