Advanced Practice Nurse Specialist - Jail Health Services, Career Service

Summary

The Jail Advanced Practice Nurse Specialist is responsible for direct employee health services and trainings as well as management of several occupational safety and health programs for work force members at three King County correctional facilities (King County Correctional Facility, Maleng Regional Justice Center, Patricia Clark Children and Family Justice Center).

Job Duties

• Work under the supervision and guidance of the Employee Health Nurse Manager managing various employee health programs such as TB Surveillance, Bloodborne Pathogens and Sharps Safety, Respiratory Protection, Immunization, Communicable Disease Exposure, and Workplace Wellness/Health Promotion programs.
• Assess health and safety needs for workforce members in the Public Health Division of Jail Health Services, as well as workforce members in the Department of Juvenile and Adult Detention.
• Monitor and assure OSHA/WISHA and contract compliance.
• Make educational presentations to workforce and community partners regarding occupational health issues.
• Conduct trainings r/t Bloodborne Pathogens. TB, COVID, respirator use, personal protective equipment, and any emerging pathogen/employee threat that may arise.
• Provide expert advice and counsel to internal and external customers regarding occupational health and safety.
• Participate in the Jail Health Services/DAJD site safety committee as well as the Public Health Department’s Central Safety Committee and recommend policy changes to department management relating to workplace safety and health hazards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Requirements:

• Washington State license as a Registered Nurse (in good standing).
• Bachelor's degree in nursing or a master's degree in nursing science or a graduate level nursing degree of MSN, DNP or PhD from an accredited school of nursing.
• Washington State Registered Nurse License in good standing.
• Washington State Drivers' License in good standing.
• Current BLS-CPR for Healthcare Providers.
• Successful completion of background check and pre-employment physical.

Work Schedule: This is a fully benefited, Career Service, 1.0 FTE position with a typical schedule of Monday - Friday from 0600-1500 with an openness to consider an alternative work schedule. This position is overtime eligible and will work outside of the typical schedule to meet operational needs.

Work Location: This position will work within King County Correctional Facility, 500 5th Ave., Seattle, WA 98104, Maleng Regional Justice Center, 401 Fourth Ave. N., Kent, WA 98032 and Patricia Clark Children and Family Justice Center, 1211 East Alder St., Seattle, WA 98122. Travel to all three work sites is required. This is a fulltime in-person clinical position.

Additional Information
Public Health - Jail Health Services follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:

• Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution.
