Position Summary

UVA Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Advanced Practice Provider (APP)—Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Associate (PA)—to join the Nuclear Medicine & Stress Lab team. The APP will play a key role in the evaluation, supervision, and care of patients undergoing nuclear cardiology and stress testing procedures. This role provides an opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centered cardiovascular care in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and technologists.

The APP will work across two locations
University Hospital and Fontaine Clinics
4–5 days per week (Monday -Friday)
8–10 hours per day

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-test assessments, including patient history, physical exam, and risk stratification.
  • Independently perform, monitor, and interpret exercise and pharmacologic stress testing in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Provide patient management during procedures, ensuring safety and rapid response to clinical changes.
  • Deliver post-test care, including patient education, follow-up recommendations, and communication of results to referring providers.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and nuclear medicine technologists to optimize clinical workflow and patient experience.
  • Participate in protocol development, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives within the Stress Lab.
  • Contribute to patient access by assisting with triage and scheduling of appropriate testing.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for stress testing and nuclear cardiology within the Cardiology division.
  • Support the education and training of students and new staff through precepting and onboarding activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
Experience: Department and unit specific.
Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

Position Compensation Range: $96,907.20 - $155,043.20 Annual
