Advanced Practice Provider – Wound Care Program

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within Trauma and Acute Care Surgery in the Wound Care Center. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Position Highlights:

• The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the blended services as a member of the Department of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, Wound Care Program.

• The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence- based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.

• Care of the Wound patient will be in accordance with the Scope and Standards of Practice as defined by the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Society.

• Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring medical or surgical intervention in blended environment as a member of the Wound Care Program.

• Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.

• Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.

• Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Wound Care services.

• Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.

• Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.

• Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.

• Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associations, and current literature.

• Management of the wound patient during hospitalization, both short term and long-term episodic and maintenance care.

Schedule:

• This is an Optional Part Time position.

• Scheduling flexibility is part of this role, designed to provide coverage when full-time staff is on leave, education, or PTO.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctorate in Nursing Practice, Wound/Ostomy Advanced Practice Certification, other Wound Care Certification

• Two years of experience

Minimum Education:

• Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.

• Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

• Board Certification in Wound Care

Minimum Requirements: *or eligible*

    • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP)

    • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP)

    • Family NP (FNP)

• Physician Assistant

  • Wisconsin Physician Assistant License

  • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

  • Certification Requirements:
