The Career Services Advisor supports prospective students, current students, and alumni in achieving their career and educational goals through individualized advising, group facilitation, and career programming. In consultation with Student Services Counselors, faculty, and other college departments, the position is responsible for developing, delivering, and continually enhancing career development services, including workshops, events, and employer engagement initiatives. The Advisor maintains current knowledge of career development theory and practice and labor-market trends to ensure students are prepared for successful career outcomes and also applies this expertise to support internal training and development for staff.
Job DescriptionEssential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.-
Provide individual and group advising on career exploration and planning, job search strategies, internships, resume and cover letter development, and interview preparation.

Develop, facilitate, and assess workshops and presentations on professionalism, leadership, salary negotiation, and career planning.

Deliver career development sessions for diverse student populations to build career readiness and employability skills.

Develop and lead training and coaching initiatives for student services staff to support institution-wide career readiness strategies.

Establish and maintain relationships with employers, school districts, alumni, and community partners to increase employment opportunities.

Collaborate with faculty to integrate career readiness into academic and co-curricular programming.

Collect and analyze data on student outcomes and program effectiveness to support continuous improvement.

Develop career-related digital content and participate in student and follower engagement on social media and online platforms, in collaboration with administrative staff responsible for posting and platform management.

Remain actively involved in professional, business, and industry associations to stay informed about labor market trends.

Provide mentorship and functional leadership to adjunct employment advisors, including training and scheduling.

Participate in professional development to maintain up-to-date knowledge of career services practices.

Support departmental operations to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality services.
Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities-
Perform additional duties and special projects as requested to support departmental or institutional needs.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and/or Experience Requirements-
Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Master's degree preferred.

Minimum of two years of experience in higher education, college recruiting, counseling, and/or career development, along with at least two years of occupational experience in a related field.

Demonstrated success in delivering presentations, workshops, or interactive learning experiences.

Proficiency with career development theories, job-search tools, and current labor-market trends.

Experience with Handshake or a comparable career management platform preferred.

Experience with content creation, social media management, or learning technologies preferred.

Ability to work flexible hours and travel within the district.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements-
Certified Career Counselor (CCC), Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP) or Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) credential strongly preferred; a master's degree in counseling or a related field, or equivalent qualifications, may also be considered.

Work Environment-
This is primarily an on-campus position with occasional virtual work allowed per the discretion of the department manager.

Responsibilities may require occasional off-site visits, employer meetings, or community engagement.
Work environment may change based upon college needs.Physical Requirements-
Sitting: Extended periods of sitting while advising students, performing administrative tasks, and using computer systems.

Mobility: Occasional mobility required for meetings, workshops, employer visits, and campus events.

Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to 20 pounds.

Fine Motor Skills: Regular computer use, writing, and operation of instructional technology.

Repetitive Motions: Frequent typing and computer-based work.

Communication: Clear verbal and written communication necessary for advising, presenting, and employer engagement.

Travel: Occasional travel within the district for outreach, events, or professional development.

Driving: Valid driver's license may be required if job duties include off-site travel.

Starting Range: $54,900 - $64,600 per year
Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.
Note: Internal applicants' wage will be based upon the applicable compensation guidelines.
