Cayenne Wellness Center and Children’s Foundation (CWC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving health outcomes and reducing mortality for individuals and families affected by Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).

CWC is a recognized leader in advocacy, education, and community engagement, working to address systemic health disparities and inequities impacting the SCD community. Through legislative advocacy and strategic partnerships, CWC has helped advance critical policies, including the passage of the Sickle Cell Treatment Act in California.

Advocacy Day Initiative

CWC’s annual Advocacy Day mobilizes patients, caregivers, and community stakeholders from across California to engage directly with policymakers. This initiative builds a strong, informed network of advocates who elevate issues impacting the SCD community, promote equitable access to care, and influence health policy at the state and national levels.

Position Overview

We are seeking a results-driven, proactive, and community-focused Advocacy and Community Engagement (ACE) Manager to lead outreach, coordination, and engagement efforts for CWC’s Advocacy Day initiative.

This role is responsible for building and mobilizing a statewide network of advocates, increasing participation in Advocacy Day, and strengthening relationships with community organizations, stakeholders, and legislative partners. The ACE Manager will play a key role in ensuring that Advocacy Day is impactful, well-attended, and aligned with CWC’s broader policy and equity goals.

Candidates invited to interview will be asked to present a 30/60/90-day plan outlining their strategy for outreach, relationship building, and measurable outcomes. Candidates should review Advocacy Day materials on the Cayenne Wellness Center website prior to interviewing.

Key Responsibilities:

Outreach & Recruitment

  • Identify, recruit, and engage patients, caregivers, community members, and partner organizations to participate in Advocacy Day
  • Once identified, train those that desire to be local regions coordinators (December - April)
  • Identify speakers for trainings
  • Conduct outreach via phone, email, virtual meetings, and in-person engagement
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of engaged advocates across California

Advocate Engagement & Preparation

  • Support the development and coordination of Advocacy Day trainings and materials
  • Prepare participants to effectively engage with legislators and policymakers
  • Ensure advocates understand key policy priorities and messaging

Relationship Building

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, healthcare partners, and advocacy groups
  • Serve as a liaison between CWC and external stakeholders
  • Strengthen partnerships that support long-term advocacy efforts

Event Coordination Support

  • Assist in planning and execution of Advocacy Day activities, including scheduling, logistics, and participant coordination
  • Help coordinate meetings with legislative offices and stakeholders
  • Support on-the-ground or virtual execution of Advocacy Day

Tracking & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed records of outreach, partnerships, and participant engagement
  • Track metrics related to recruitment, participation, and outcomes
  • Provide regular progress reports to leadership

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the CWC team to align advocacy efforts with organizational priorities
  • Contribute ideas to expand advocacy reach and deepen community impact

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Communications, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in advocacy, community engagement, public health, or related work
  • Strong outreach, recruitment, and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent communication and public speaking abilities
  • Experience engaging diverse communities and addressing health disparities
  • Highly organized with strong tracking, reporting, and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and presentation tools
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred

Pay: $26.00 per hour
