  • Advocacy Coordinator- Salt Lake County and PREA Services

    The Salt Lake Advocacy & PREA Coordinator advances the mission of the Rape Recovery Center by providing, overseeing, and supporting advocacy services, including crisis intervention, case management, and support groups. This role also manages the day-to-day operations of the Salt Lake County Advocacy and PREA programs, ensuring quality services for all survivors, including those who are incarcerated. The Coordinator provides supervision, training, and leadership to advocacy staff, interns, and volunteers, with a focus on best practices for serving justice-involved survivors. This position also contributes to continuous quality improvement and advises the Advocacy Director on program strategy and development.

    This is a full-time position with a 40-hour workweek, offering full benefits. The hourly rate ranges from $25.24-$26.00 DOE and follows a Monday to Friday schedule, requiring a minimum of 1, 11am to 7pm shift per week (occasional evening and weekend hours as applicable).     KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure accessible and consistent service delivery, identify service issues, and address gaps to meet the Utah Standards of Care for Rape Crisis Centers and PREA standards.

    • Ensure that survivors of sexual violence are oriented to their constitutional and statutory rights and assist in securing those rights.

    • Ensure that all services provided by the advocacy program meet Standards of Care for Rape Crisis Centers as set forth by Statute.

    • Ensure that all services provided by the advocacy program meet confidential communication requirements set forth by the Utah Confidential Communication Act, Utah Code 77-38-202.

    • Provide advocacy and crisis intervention services to primary and secondary survivors of sexual violence.

    • Provide Direct Service Coordination which requires at least one evening shift per week.

    • Provide case management and advocacy services for a 8-10 caseload per week.

    • Provide advocacy service support to Advocates when needed.

    • Provide support and co-facilitate 1-2 weekly support groups in the evenings as needed.

    • Provide consultation, case management, and accompaniment to clients regarding sexual violence-related immigration, law enforcement, and court services in and outside the agency.

    • Maintain and assure quality, accuracy, and confidentiality of records, and all data is recorded within 24 hours.

    • Participate in scheduled advocacy, agency meetings, and training seminars as directed.

    • Respond to community inquiries, external requests, and questions regarding services, including PREA services.

    • Represent Rape Recovery Center with a professional image and manner.

    • Connect with external organizations and partners for resource sharing, information, and program development.

    • Provide survivors support, and education in connecting with resources, and understanding the investigation and other justice system processes.

    • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings by coordinating client services for both in-house advocacy and incarcerated survivors with fellow staff and multidisciplinary team (MDT) members; including acting as a liaison between survivors, law enforcement, corrections, medical, mental health providers, and prosecutors.

    • Participate in collaborative meetings with community partners and service providers.

    • Assist with coverage at the front desk and the RRC helplines as needed and assigned.

    • Advise and assist Advocacy Director with developing, administering, and maintaining program grants, data, reports, and client surveys.

    • Maintain a working knowledge of resources for all survivors, including currently and formerly incarcerated survivors.

    • Ensure incarcerated survivors' advocacy needs are addressed through letter and email writing, PREA HelpLine, and in-person visits.

    • Provide training and support to mobile response, advocacy, and clinical teams.

    • Provide Coordinator support to the Mobile Response Team (MRT) Director with PREA needs on an as needed basis.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, mental health services or related field, OR 4 years of relevant experience with at least one (1) year of relevant supervision experience, OR a combination of practical and academic experience.

    • Ability to understand and articulate survivor needs and concerns, and identify long-term trends.

    • Demonstrated track record of service provision in social work, human services, or case management capacity.

    • Attention to detail, organizational skills, efficiency, and timeliness.

    • Excellent communication skills, including writing, de-escalation, crisis intervention, and active listening.

    • Ability to build rapport and inspire confidence in clients, staff, and partners.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suites.

    • Alignment with the mission of the Rape Recovery Center and the Feminist Multicultural model.


    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Demonstrated knowledge of Utah Standards of Care for Rape Crisis Programs.

    • Demonstrated knowledge about the feminist multicultural approach.

    • Understanding of micro, mezzo, and macro systems and their impact on survivors.

    • Proven experience in case management, crisis advocacy, and working with vulnerable populations (LGBTQI+, Homeless, Pacific Islanders, American Indian/Native American, undocumented immigrants).

    • Experience working with the criminal justice system or with survivors of sexual violence.

    • Bilingual- verbal, written and spoken proficiency in English and Spanish.


    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT OFFER

    • The employee must complete all new hire paperwork by the end of the day on the first workday.

    • The employee must complete a criminal background check.

      • Instructions on obtaining the background check will be provided by the operations team.

      • Part of this process requires uploading a state-issued ID and scheduling an appointment with the Department of Public Safety for physical fingerprints to be processed.

      • Please note a 2-3 week turnaround time as fingerprint appointments (subject to COVID safety protocols as determined by DPS) are not immediately available.

      • Employees/Staff Members of the RRC cannot be alone with clients until the background check is received and reviewed for risk.

    • The employee must obtain a 40-hour crisis counselor certification and submit within 120 days.

    • The employee agrees to a probationary period of 90-days from the first day of working in their new position. After 90-days, the employee will receive a detailed evaluation of their progress.

    • Employees must comply with the flu and covid19 vaccination policy.
