An Advocate is a legal professional who represents, advises, and defends individuals, organizations, or the government in legal matters before courts, tribunals, and other authorities. The primary duty of an advocate is to uphold the rule of law, protect the legal rights of clients, and ensure justice is served according to the Constitution and applicable laws.

An advocate’s work includes drafting legal documents such as plaints, written statements, petitions, affidavits, contracts, agreements, legal notices, and opinions. Advocates conduct legal research, study case laws and statutes, prepare arguments, and present cases before courts effectively. They also examine and cross-examine witnesses, argue on questions of law and facts, and assist the court in reaching a fair decision.

In addition to litigation, advocates provide legal consultation, advise clients on their rights and obligations, negotiate settlements, and help resolve disputes through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as arbitration, mediation, or conciliation. They must maintain professional ethics, client confidentiality, and honesty while performing their duties.
