After School Tutoring Opportunity - Dyslexia Remediation

Overview:
Traverse Dyslexia is an educational services provider with clinics in Salem and Silverton. We are hiring one tutor for our Salem office. Training begins in March/April, tutoring begins in April/May (exact dates are flexible).

We help dyslexic students learn to read, write, and spell, often after experiencing years of academic challenges.

Our students range from grades K-12, and generally are clever, fun, quirky and underconfident. Our job is to build them up, help them rewire their brains, and nurture them into becoming confident students and fluent readers/writers.

Tutor Responsibilities:

  • Work with students and guide them through the scope and sequence, working with each student one-on-one for 50 minutes, twice a week year-round
  • Identify challenges that students are facing, make notes, assess progress
  • Review and reinforce areas of difficulty
  • Communicate with the Director and Assistant Director about other concerns/progress

Requirements/Training:

The dyslexia remediation scope and sequence is provided, and online training (with a paid stipend) is also included. Tutor training includes a practicum, which is undertaken while tutoring.

Tutors should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • Experience working with children/teens
  • A love and appreciation for language, reading, and writing
  • Patience, understanding, and enthusiasm for helping students build literacy skills
  • An interest in the science of reading and writing
  • Excellent, positive communication skills
  • Creative and effective behavioral management skills
  • Ability to establish a solid rapport with students
  • Ability to pass a background check

Schedule/Availability:

  • School year: 2-6PM Mondays through Thursdays (required)
  • June-July-August 2026: flexible schedule, but averaging 16-24 hours/week each month

Compensation:

Tutors are independent contractors, with a starting hourly rate of $25-32 based on education and experience. After the practicum period and training is completed, hourly rates increase.
