About Brick Lab

Brick Lab is a STEAM-based educational enrichment program that uses LEGO® to make learning irresistible. We run after-school programs, school-break camps, robotics clubs, and special events at school sites across the Santa Cruz area — and we’re growing.

What You’ll Do

• Lead hands-on STEAM sessions for K–5 students (groups of 8–20) at local school sites after school
• Facilitate skill-building through LEGO® projects that develop academic knowledge alongside critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity
• Adapt lessons to meet diverse learning styles and age ranges within the same session
• Track student progress and communicate wins and challenges with parents
• Help create a classroom culture where curiosity is celebrated and every kid feels like a builder

What We’re Looking For

• Genuine enthusiasm for working with elementary-age kids — patience, energy, and a sense of humor go a long way
• Experience in teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp instruction, or youth programming (formal or informal)
• Comfort leading a room — you don’t need to be a performer, but you do need to be able to hold a group’s attention
• Ability to think on your feet and adjust when a lesson isn’t landing
• Strong communication skills with both kids and adults (parents, school staff, and our team)
• A love of LEGO® or hands-on building is a genuine plus

A degree in Education, a STEAM field, or a related area is preferred but not required. What matters most is your experience with kids and your enthusiasm for the work.

Requirements

All Brick Lab employees work on school campuses, so the following are required before your first day:

• Favorable outcome from an FBI and/or DOJ background check
• Fingerprinting via Live Scan
• Negative TB test (skin or blood)

Schedule & Compensation

• Part-time, after-school hours (typically Monday–Friday, afternoons)
• Additional hours available during school-break camps and special events
• $20–$25 per hour based on experience
