Job Summary
The University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment news and communications team, part of the college’s Marketing and Agricultural Communications department, is seeking a dynamic student intern to help elevate storytelling about the college’s mission—improving lives in Kentucky together through student success and academic programs, research and extension efforts. The intern will contribute to the team’s overall communications strategy, while having the opportunity to intersect with other department teams including marketing, multimedia and more. This position is hybrid, requiring some in-person and remote work as necessary.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Qualifications:
  • A strong interest in promoting the college’s mission through communications, marketing and public relations projects
  • Willingness to collaborate with and contribute on a high-performing team, including written content, social media, graphic design, photography and videography
  • Innovative and willingness to share new ideas, creative and inquisitive
  • Some educational or work experience related to communications, marketing, public relations, etc.
  • Good written and oral communication skills along with being highly organized and able to multi-task
  • Some experience with social media platforms is a plus
  • Must be a University of Kentucky student for the 2025-26 school year
  • Ability to work 15-20 hours per week, including some events outside of business hours. Ability to work more/less hours is possible.

Responsibilities:
  • Learn about communications, editorial process, marketing and overall branding strategy for the University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment
  • Pitch and be assigned stories, conduct interviews and champions storytelling from start to finish
  • Collaborate with social media manager on content for the college’s platforms
  • Participate in team meetings to brainstorm content and contribute to overall communications/marketing strategy
  • Take photos and videos for storytelling and social media (cross-training is available as needed)
  • Attend events as necessary to help represent the communications team
  • Partner on other communications projects/other duties as necessary to help make the internship as rewarding as possible
