Job Description
-
Leads and trains field technicians and other staff in conducting field experiments, including soil sampling, plant tissue sampling, and data collection. Operates as an integral member of the team at NFREC-SV.

Coordinates cultural operations on experimental plots with appropriate personnel and equipment. Trains or instructs others in the use and operation of field and lab equipment, research methods, or technologies.

Collects, records, verifies, and assists in analyzing scientific data from experiments. The candidate is expected to independently make daily decisions, following established guidelines, to best achieve overall goals or project outcomes. Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and other software is required for data analysist.

Independently prepare progress reports documenting experiment results and communications to stakeholders about the work being conducted at this Center.

Installs and maintains field, greenhouse, and laboratory experiments. Understands experimental design and project management.

Handles administrative tasks, including managing project-related expenses, assisting with P-card purchases and assisting with monitoring project budgets.

Finds and obtains price quotes for equipment, materials, and supplies. Purchases needed for field, office, and laboratory work.

Ensures compliance with Environmental Health and Safety policies and relevant government regulations.

Operates state vehicles to gather research data.
Expected Salary
$47,000.00 commensurate with education and experience
Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field; or a master’s degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.

Valid Florida Driver’s License.

Must obtain CDL and Escort licenses within 6 months.
Preferred

A master’s degree in an agricultural or life sciences field is preferred.

Familiarity with statistical methods and statistical software such as R, SAS, or a similar data analysis program.

The ideal candidate should have education and/or experience in water management, water quality, and agricultural water and nutrient management best management practices. They should understand soil and water sampling methods. The candidate should also be able to communicate data and results through written reports clearly and to communicate to general stakeholders about the work being conducted at this Center and on farms.
