Acentra Health is looking for an Intern to join our growing team.
Job Summary:
Join Acentra Health’s AI & Automation Center of Excellence for a summer internship at the intersection of applied AI, automation, and data-driven innovation. As an AI Engineer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience developing, testing, and integrating AI tools and automations that directly support healthcare operations and business processes.
This internship blends applied AI engineering with exposure to real-world projects, such as large language model (LLM)-based assistants, intelligent document processing, and workflow automation. You’ll also engage with Acentra Health’s Elevate AI program and AI Champion network, helping to expand AI literacy and advocacy across the organization.
This position will be a hybrid role, with in-person attendance at our Tyson’s Corner, VA office.
Responsibilities:

Support the design, testing, and deployment of AI-driven automations and LLM applications.

Assist in developing and evaluating prompt engineering and RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) pipelines.

Contribute to small-scale experiments, prototypes, and proofs of concept for GenAI and applied ML use cases.

Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to prepare, analyze, and visualize data for AI projects.

Document experiments, workflows, and outcomes to support knowledge sharing and transparency.

Participate in team meetings, demos, and learning sessions focused on AI innovation and responsible use.

Help advance AI literacy initiatives through internal communications, events, and advocacy efforts.
Qualifications:
-
Rising seniors who are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, as well as students working towards a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related fields.

Emerging majors such as AI Engineering and Cognitive Science are also welcome.

Strong interest in applied AI, automation, and hands-on experimentation.

Basic experience with Python and AI/ML libraries (e.g., Hugging Face, scikit-learn, LangChain, or PyTorch).

Familiarity with APIs, cloud tools (AWS, Azure), or workflow automation tools is a plus.

Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Curiosity, creativity, and a passion for learning in a collaborative team environment.

Experience contributing to real-world AI and automation initiatives in healthcare.

Mentorship from experienced AI engineers, data scientists, and program leaders.

Exposure to enterprise AI governance, policy, and responsible AI frameworks.
