Aircraft Maintenance Technician

  • An Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) inspects, tests, and repairs aircraft systems and components, ensuring airworthiness and safety by diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical issues, performing scheduled maintenance, and keeping detailed records. Key responsibilities include conducting pre-flight inspections, troubleshooting engine and airframe problems, replacing defective parts, and maintaining compliance with aviation regulations and manufacturer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
Inspections and Diagnostics: Conducts routine and pre-flight inspections to identify defects, fluid leaks, and other issues in aircraft systems and components.
Repairs and Maintenance: Performs maintenance, repairs, and overhauls on aircraft systems, including engines, landing gear, electrical, and fuel systems.
Component Replacement: Assembles, disassembles, and replaces defective aircraft parts and components using hand and power tools.
Testing: Tests aircraft operations and components using gauges, voltmeters, and other instruments to ensure proper function.
Documentation: Maintains detailed records of all inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Troubleshooting: Solves complex technical problems and resolves unusual repairs by consulting technical manuals, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications.
Adherence to Regulations: Complies with all safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines set by authorities such as the FAA.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of aircraft mechanical and electrical systems.
Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and fix complex issues.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure work is performed correctly and safely.
Manual Dexterity: Good physical condition and strong manual dexterity for handling tools and performing complex tasks.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting issues and working with teams.
Certifications: FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification is typically required.
Work Environment
Varied Locations: Works in hangars, on the flight line, or other aviation facilities.
Conditions: Involves exposure to fumes, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and may require working in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
Shifts: Often requires working flexible and unsociable hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
