BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: Structural and craft work in inspecting, repairing, and maintaining aircraft and aircraft engines in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and manufacturers standards. Work is performed on all facets of the aircraft and includes flight testing of aircraft upon completion of maintenance. Responsibilities may include conducting hourly and calendar inspections, troubleshooting discrepancies, working on aircraft outside and away from the main maintenance base, and working with Pilots while conducting maintenance test flights.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:

  • Conducts inspections of all mechanical parts on airframes, engines, and avionics of both fixed and rotary wing aircraft to ensure aircraft safety.
  • Diagnose & repairs problems with aircraft operations to maximize aircraft availability and air worthiness.
  • Repair turbine and reciprocating engines and their associated accessories to conform to FAA and manufacturer standards.
  • Performs structural repairs to airframe structures.
  • Computes aircraft weight and balance to ensure aircraft remains within specified center of gravity and maintains proper flight characteristics.
  • Flight tests aircraft to ensure repairs and maintenance were correctly performed and to make further calibrations or repairs.
  • Repairs spare parts, components, engines and accessories to ensure ready replacement of non-functional aircraft parts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited airframe and powerplant mechanics school or the equivalent in training and experience.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Possession of a current aircraft and powerplant license as issued by the FAA.

Preference will be given to those with a minimum of 5 years of helicopter maintenance experience with additional preference being given to those with Bell helicopter experience. Preference will also be given to those who hold a current Inspection Authorization rating and a current driver’s license without restrictions.

Currently, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions.
