Airport IT Field Technician

Position Title: Airport IT Field Technician (Digital Systems / IT Support)
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Onsite)
Clearance Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain SIDA (Airport Security Badge)
Position Status: Contract (12+ months, likely extension)
Pay Rate: Competitive and based on experience

Position Description:

We are seeking a hands-on Airport IT Field Technician to support critical passenger-facing technology systems across airport terminals and facilities. This role is ideal for professionals with strong IT field support, hardware troubleshooting, digital signage, and networking experience who thrive in fast-paced, high-visibility environments.

This position plays a key role in ensuring the availability, performance, and presentation quality of digital systems used by passengers and airport stakeholders. The technician will perform real-time troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, installations, and system monitoring , while working independently across large airport environments.

This is a fully onsite role requiring mobility, responsiveness, and flexibility, including occasional after-hours support.

Key Responsibilities: Operational Support
  • Perform daily walkthroughs across airport terminals to ensure digital systems and passenger-facing technologies are fully operational

  • Respond to alerts, incidents, and service tickets in a timely manner

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to digital signage, media players, controllers, and display systems

  • Replace, reboot, and reconfigure hardware components as needed

  • Support installation and calibration of smart technologies (sensors, people counters, feedback systems)

  • Maintain high system uptime and presentation standards

Preventive Maintenance
  • Conduct routine inspections and cleaning of display and sensor equipment

  • Perform scheduled hardware and network maintenance checks

  • Identify and report equipment failures, environmental risks, and performance issues

Documentation & Asset Management
  • Maintain accurate asset tracking records (device IDs, serial numbers, locations)

  • Document incidents, maintenance activities, and resolutions

  • Support system documentation and reporting requirements

Required Skills/Education:
  • 3+ years of experience in IT field support, technical operations, or systems support

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in:

    • Digital signage systems or smart technologies

    • Real-time troubleshooting in operational environments

    • Basic networking (IP concepts, CAT6 cabling, PoE devices)

  • Experience working with:

    • HDMI, DisplayPort, and hardware interfaces

    • PC hardware installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle urgent technical issues

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-mobility environment

  • Strong communication and stakeholder interaction skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain SIDA clearance

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Work across airport terminals (landside and airside environments)

  • Walk approximately 5–10 miles per shift

  • Stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks (lifting, climbing ladders, equipment handling)

  • Provide after-hours and emergency support as needed

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting 24/7 high-availability systems

  • Experience with large-scale digital signage deployments

  • Experience with content management systems (CMS)

  • Experience with structured cabling and clean installations

  • Experience troubleshooting LCD/LED displays and panel components

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel

  • Experience with system imaging and deployment
