Alibaba Cloud Engineer

Role Overview

We are hiring Alibaba Cloud Engineers to build and operate enterprise cloud infrastructure as part of a large-scale cloud platform migration engagement. This is a hands-on, broad infrastructure role covering compute, networking, containers, storage, serverless, security, and IaC. Engineers will work directly on PoC workloads, sandbox lab environments, and migration execution tasks. The role suits engineers with strong cloud fundamentals who are comfortable working across multiple service areas and taking ownership of infrastructure end-to-end.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provision and manage Alibaba Cloud infrastructure: ECS instances, OSS buckets, VPC topologies, SLBs, NAT Gateways, and security groups
• Deploy and manage containerised workloads on ACK (Alibaba Container Service for Kubernetes) and ASK (Serverless Kubernetes); manage Helm-based application deployments
• Implement and maintain Function Compute (FC) functions and API Gateway integrations
• Configure and manage DataHub topics, producers, and consumers for streaming data ingestion
• Set up and manage SFTP-based file transfer workflows using Alibaba Managed File Transfer and OSS
• Implement security controls: RAM roles, Resource Directory policies, WAF rules, Anti-DDoS, and KMS-based encryption
• Write and maintain IaC using Resource Orchestration Service (ROS) templates and Terraform (Alibaba Cloud provider)
• Execute migration tasks using Alibaba Cloud Server Migration Centre (SMC) and data migration tooling
• Run PoC exercises: replicate existing workloads in Alibaba Cloud sandbox environments and document findings for the migration playbook
• Collaborate with the MSP partner on change requests and incident triage via remote screenshare sessions
• Maintain infrastructure documentation, runbooks, and configuration records in the team knowledge base.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 4 to 7 years of hands-on cloud engineering experience; Alibaba Cloud experience strongly preferred, or a strong AWS background with readiness to transition
• Proficiency in core Alibaba Cloud services: ECS, OSS, VPC, SLB, ACK, Function Compute, API Gateway, RAM, CloudMonitor
• Solid Kubernetes fundamentals: deployments, services, Ingress, persistent volumes, Helm; hands-on ACK or EKS experience
• Experience writing infrastructure-as-code: ROS templates or Terraform; ability to convert infrastructure designs into deployable code
• Strong networking fundamentals: VPC design, subnets, routing tables, NAT, load balancing, firewall rules
• Linux administration and scripting: Bash and Python for automation and tooling
• Understanding of cloud security: RAM/IAM, encryption at rest and in transit, network segmentation, and compliance controls
• ACA – Cloud Computing certification.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with cloud-to-cloud migration tooling: Alibaba Cloud Server Migration Centre (SMC), OSS Data Migration Service
• Prior hands-on AWS experience (EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, Kinesis, CloudFormation) to contribute to migration mapping
• ACP – Cloud Computing certification
• Experience with monitoring stacks: CloudMonitor, ARMS, Prometheus, Grafana
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines: Jenkins, Bitbucket, ROS-integrated deployments
• Knowledge of Alibaba Cloud China region constraints and ICP-related requirements.
