Role Overview:
The Aluminum Welding Technician in the marine industry is responsible for performing high-quality aluminum welding tasks, primarily for the construction, maintenance, and repair of aluminum vessel structures and components. The technician ensures work meets marine classification standards and project requirements while maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform TIG and MIG welding on aluminum components such as hulls, superstructures, decks, tanks, and other marine parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
- Prepare and clean materials and joints prior to welding using grinders, brushes, and chemical cleaners.
- Weld in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead) in accordance with welding procedures.
- Inspect welds visually and with basic tools to ensure proper penetration and alignment.
- Perform welding repairs on existing aluminum structures, both onboard and in the shipyard
- Work with fabricators and other technicians to ensure correct assembly and fit-up before welding.
- Adhere strictly to shipyard safety procedures, especially when working in confined or elevated spaces.
- Report welding progress and any issues or material defects to the supervisor.
