Job Summary

The Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences ( LAS ) within University Advancement seek a creative, collaborative, and detail‑oriented communications professional to serve as the Alumni & Donor Impact Communications Officer. This position leads the creation, execution, and delivery of compelling donor‑facing and alumni‑focused communications that highlight the impact of philanthropy across LAS .

The Alumni & Donor Impact Communications Officer leads the creation, execution, and delivery of compelling donor‑facing and alumni‑focused communications that highlight the impact of philanthropy within the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences ( LAS ). LAS includes the Colleges of Humanities, Science, and Social & Behavioral Science. This role strengthens donor and alumni engagement by producing high‑quality written, digital, and visual communications, including impact reports, stewardship messaging, donor stories, event scripts, and campaign‑aligned content.

Working collaboratively with the Donor Relations team, LAS Marketing & Communications, U Alumni, faculty, and frontline fundraisers, the Officer ensures that donors and alumni receive consistent, inspiring, and meaningful communication that advances the college’s philanthropic and engagement goals.

This role offers the opportunity to build a strong portfolio of impact storytelling while gaining experience in advancement communications at a leading R1 institution. It provides meaningful ownership and cross-campus collaboration for a communicator looking to deepen their expertise in alumni and donor engagement.

Responsibilities

Donor Impact Reporting & Storytelling

  • Lead writing, editing, and production of donor impact stories, feature articles, and stewardship narratives for use in annual and special reports.

  • Partner with the Stewardship Officer and Advancement Operations & Scholarships Specialist to transform financial and student impact data into high‑quality narrative content.

  • Prepare award reporting data packets for use in donor impact reports.

  • Produce digital and print stewardship materials including newsletters, donor profiles, video scripts, and campaign updates.

  • Ensure consistent tone, accuracy, donor‑centered messaging, and brand alignment.

  • Maintain organized archives of stewardship communications and historical reporting.

Alumni & Donor Communications

  • Develop segmented alumni and donor communications for events, engagement campaigns, and recognition efforts.

  • Create compelling alumni e-newsletters utilizing both existing content and original content to engage alumni in being informed and involved.

  • Collaborate with U Alumni and LAS Communications to craft compelling messaging supporting alumni engagement strategies.

  • Produce event‑related communications such as invitations, run‑of‑show scripts, speaker briefs, and post‑event summaries.

  • Manage digital content updates for LAS donor and alumni‑related web pages.

Engagement & Event Support

  • Provide communication materials for donor and alumni events, including program copy, biographies, scripts, and promotional language.

  • Capture stories, testimonials, and event highlights to be used in future communications and stewardship messaging.

  • Coordinate with the Donor Relations Officer – Alumni Relations & Events to ensure alignment across engagement channels.

Cross Campus Collaboration

  • Partner with LAS Marketing and Communications team to ensure newsletters and email communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with strategic goals.

  • Collaborate closely with U Alumni to engage alumni from the College of Humanities, College of Science, and the College of Social and Behavioral Science in university-wide, LAS -wide, and college-level events and initiatives. Support opportunities for volunteerism, mentorship, service programs, affinity activities, and other engagement experiences that strengthen alumni connection and participation across the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

General Donor Relations Support

  • Contribute communication support to stewardship plans for top‑tier donors (e.g., customized reports, letters, impact briefs).

  • Provide writing and editing support for acknowledgments and donor correspondence.

  • Participate in donor relations planning discussions to align messaging and strategy.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Two years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, donor relations, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience producing high-quality written content for external audiences.

  • Strong editing, organizational, and project management skills.

  • Ability to collaborate across teams and manage multiple deadlines.

Preferences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in communications, marketing, journalism, English, public relations, design, or a related field.

  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or advancement communications.

  • Experience developing newsletters, impact reports, email campaigns, or donor-facing materials.

  • Familiarity with content management systems, email marketing tools, or basic design platforms (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
