2026 Pay Range: $26.00 to $35.10 per hour. The hiring range is $26.00 to 30.55.

About Us

Evergreen Fire/Rescue, founded in 1948, provides around the clock emergency medical, rescue, and fire suppression services along with community risk reduction services to nearly 26,000 residents across more than 120 square miles. Led by a Fire Chief and the Board of Directors of the Evergreen Fire Protection District, EFR consists of six divisions: Administration, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Operations, Community Risk Reduction, Maintenance, and Wildland. The volunteers and employees of each division are committed to providing exceptional service to their community of residents, business owners, employees, and visitors.

About the Position

The Ambassador Specialist plays a critical role in advancing public awareness and understanding of wildfire risk and mitigation strategies. This position serves as a community liaison and educator, engaging directly with residents, neighborhood groups, and local organizations to promote best practices in defensible space, home hardening, evacuation readiness, fire-adapted community principles and community driven mitigation projects

Core Responsibilities Include:

The duties of this position align and evolve based on the needs of the district and additional direction from supervisor. Must be able to collaborate with other divisions to support the critical mission of the organization. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as point person for the agency’s wildfire mitigation program in community Ambassador efforts.
  • Coordinate with Ambassadors for home assessments, community chipping events, and community engagement activities in collaboration with the EFR Mitigation Team.
  • Support Ambassadors in building and organizing their individual Plan Unit Teams.
  • Develop and oversee the infrastructure of the EFR Ambassador Program to support long-term growth and sustainability.
  • Develop, distribute, and continuously update public education materials, including brochures, flyers, and digital content.
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders, including homeowner associations to support recruitment of community Ambassadors to the program.
  • Design, implement, and facilitate Ambassador orientation, training and education on wildfire efforts to ensure consistency throughout the program.
  • Provide guidance to Ambassadors on community communication and event facilitation strategies.
  • Coordinate outreach at local events, fairs, and town halls to increase awareness of wildfire mitigation resources.
  • Coordinate project events with Ambassadors, serving as the primary point of contact and support event planning and implementation.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, attendance, and feedback to help evaluate program impact.
  • Collaborate and communicate with mitigation specialists and other Wildland Division staff to ensure message consistency and alignment with local wildfire risk priorities.
  • Maintain and regularly update the EFR Resource Site for Ambassador access and community education.
  • Stay current on Wildfire Division operations, mitigation strategies, and public engagement best practices.
  • Assist in researching, drafting, and editing grant proposals and supporting documentation to secure funding from public and private sources.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Competencies required for success:

  • Communications: Effectively communicate with team members, agencies, and the general public to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Assist in wildfire mitigation public education.
  • Customer Service: Schedule and conduct home inspections and assessments as requested by community citizens for onsite visits utilizing the EFR Mitigation Program, responding in a timely way to requests for inspections and assessments.
  • Teamwork: Coordinate with partners in the program (Plan Unit Ambassadors) for enhanced resident participation.
  • Leadership: Demonstrates initiative and role model behavior, contributing with honesty, respect, and integrity. Supports vision and values in daily work and actions.

Education and Experience required for success:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver’s License with no major violations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in public speaking and community engagement.
  • Passion for public service and interest in wildfire prevention and community resilience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both office and field settings.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in education, communications, emergency management, or environmental science.
  • Prior involvement in wildland fire mitigation, community preparedness, or public outreach roles.

Compensation and Benefits:

Job Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (20-28 hours per week)

Compensation: $26.00 to $35.10 per hour. The hiring range is $26.00 to 30.55.
