Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the First State.
In meeting this mission, Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.
Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.
Legal Administrative Specialists at the Delaware Department of Justice play a critical role in supporting the work of the Criminal Division in New Castle County. The Criminal Division is responsible for prosecuting criminal offenses throughout the State and is comprised of several specialized units, including the Misdemeanor Trial and Community Engagement Unit, Felony Screening and Case Processing Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, Felony Trial/Wilmington Unit, Special Victims Unit, Homicide Unit, and the Violent Criminal Enterprise Unit.
Legal Administrative Specialists provide essential administrative and legal support to Deputy Attorneys General and staff within these units. Their responsibilities vary by assignment but generally include preparing and maintaining legal case files and documentation; conducting criminal record checks; requesting police and investigative reports; typing and proofreading legal correspondence and documents; assisting with discovery preparation; scheduling and maintaining calendars; preparing subpoena lists; filing documents; and ensuring accurate, organized case records.
These roles require strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Legal Administrative Specialists also interact professionally with law enforcement, victims, witnesses, and the public and may provide back-up coverage for the main Criminal Division Receptionist during absences.
