Ammonia Refrigeration Technician

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Ammonia Refrigeration Technician to join our dynamic maintenance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing ammonia refrigeration systems used in large-scale industrial or commercial refrigeration applications. Your expertise will ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of refrigeration equipment, supporting our commitment to food safety, property preservation, and operational excellence. This position offers an exciting opportunity for technicians with a passion for mechanical systems and a drive to maintain high standards of safety and performance.

Duties

  • Install, inspect, and service ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and associated piping.
  • Troubleshoot complex refrigeration issues using schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters.
  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration) equipment to ensure optimal operation.
  • Repair mechanical components, including welders and plumbing fixtures, while adhering to safety standards.
  • Conduct system upgrades and modifications following HVAC design specifications to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Maintain detailed records of service activities, repairs, and inspections for compliance and future reference.
  • Follow all safety protocols related to ammonia handling and property maintenance to prevent accidents or leaks.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a service technician specializing in refrigeration systems with a focus on ammonia refrigeration used in chilling systems for food/beverage operations.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in HVAC/R systems, plumbing, boiler operation, and equipment repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical diagrams, and HVAC design plans accurately.
  • Skilled in the use of diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and other electrical testing devices.
  • food or beverage experience preferred; capable of working in diverse environments, including industrial facilities or large commercial properties.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience operating <PERSON> drivers or similar vehicles is advantageous.
  • Gold Seal Certification related to ammonia refrigeration systems is a must. Black Seal Certification for boilers would be a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team under safety-sensitive conditions. Pay: $37.00 - $47.00 per hour
