Job Title: Ammonia Refrigeration Technician
Location: Valdosta, Georgia
Job Description:
As part of our commitment to excellence, the Ammonia Refrigeration Technician plays a key role in maintaining and operating the facility’s ammonia refrigeration system. This position requires proactive problem-solving, planning, and continuous improvement. Effective communication with leadership and mentoring of junior technicians are integral to this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Inspect structures to ensure safe and effective installation of piping
· Read and interpret blueprints and sketches to build to code standards
· Check/test system flow pressures and temperatures for steam, water, gases, and other liquids
· Maintain, adjust, and repair ammonia refrigeration systems
· Maintain tools and machinery in good condition
· Drill holes and install mounting brackets and hangers
· Align components and secure parts by welding, bolting, riveting, or brazing
· Cut, thread, and connect pipes to system components
· Start systems, observe gauges/instruments, and make necessary adjustments
· Troubleshoot and repair ammonia refrigeration and mechanical/electrical systems
· Replace or adjust worn/defective parts and insulate components
· Install wiring for power connections
· Use CMMS and PSM systems for documentation
· Mentor and guide junior technicians
· Respond to emergency “call-in” service requests
· Adhere to safety, food safety, and GMP regulations
· Maintain positive and professional communication with managers and team
· Complete task schedules and provide timely updates
· Work flexible hours to meet deadlines
· Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
· High School Diploma or GED
· 3–5 years of hands-on industrial ammonia refrigeration experience
Certificates and Licenses:
· Required: Level II Ammonia Operator Certification, EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification
· Preferred: Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO)
· Valid driver’s license
Additional Skills and Knowledge:
· Ability to operate forklifts, man lifts, and mobile carts
· Knowledge of basic electrical systems
· Proficiency in computer-based systems
Language Skills:
· Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions and correspondence
· Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group settings
Mathematical Skills:
· Ability to perform basic arithmetic and calculate percentages, ratios, and rates
· Ability to interpret bar graphs
Reasoning Ability:
· Apply common sense to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions
· Ability to solve problems in standardized situations
Physical Demands:
· Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers
· Occasionally required to sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
· Frequently lift/move up to 25 lbs; occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs
Work Environment:
· Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts
· Frequent exposure to high places and airborne particles
· Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, extreme heat, and electrical risks
· Noise level ranges from moderate to loud
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
