Analyst Group Strategy

Purpose of the role

his role reports into the Head of Strategy - MENAT and India (functional) and the Vice President for Business Consulting (entity). The job holder has the opportunity to participate across strategic initiatives focused on delivering maximum value for the Group’s shareholders, with a dual focus on MENAT/ India-specific and Global initiatives.

The role is execution orientated, supporting the Head of Strategy MENAT/India in the overall management of the MENAT Region, as well as broader support to the leadership team across group strategy as required. The role requires significant analytical and synthesis skills and a capacity to rapidly identify key opportunities, issues and themes which have material impact with the ability to establish clear action plans in conjunction with the Global business / geography.

In this role, you will:

• Undertake in-depth analysis to support the development and track execution of MENAT/ India strategy:
• Identifying key issues / opportunities using HSBC and external sources to provide actionable, strategy recommendations for the region;
• Work with all businesses and functions to develop strategy, assess performance and KPIs, and compare with benchmarks
• Prepare Strategy review papers and Project papers for Boards and Committees for MENAT/ India business themes or geographical themes, including approvals and consultations such as GSM and ADCO.
• Operate as a partially fungible resource across Group strategy, supporting projects on a rotational basis. This allows for exposure to a number of different areas above and beyond the ‘core’ responsibilities relating to MENAT/ India
• Effectively communicate (both written and oral) analyses across internal stakeholders – within Group strategy, across strategy colleagues in the bank and across other functions within Group
• Undertake quantitative analysis, including Excel modelling, of market drivers, internal performance trends, and M&A related opportunities; attention to detail critical
• Develop presentation materials, both in Powerpoint and Word format, to facilitate strategic discussions at the Group and Business / Function level. The role also requires the ability to operate under tight time pressures whilst maintaining high quality of work

To be successful you will:

• Financial services experience is preferred
• Strategy experience in either consultancy or corporate (desirable)
• Strong problem solving skills and well developed analytical skills, including excel modelling
• Knowledge of using external sources such as Bloomberg, Capital IQ etc helpful but not necessary
• Ability to work independently and able to work in a small team with a flat structure to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  Commercial acumen – ability to link strategy with financial outcomes(EPS, RoTE)
• Storytelling & Communication – Structure complex analysis into concise, executive ready narrative and presentations
