We are seeking an experienced analytical chemist with expertise in the development and implementation of analytical methods for the identification, quantification, and characterization of small organic molecules and metabolites produced during microbial cell fermentation. This role will require a deep understanding of analytical chemistry method development, validation, and analysis. The analytical team performs routine analyses as well as identification of unknown compounds. This scientist should be able to develop and implement high-throughput screening methods for analyzing large libraries of samples. Experience with precision fermentation sample preparation and product analysis in complex matrices is highly desirable. This position will act as a group leader to manage a small team of scientists to support numerous programs within the company. We want team members with a natural inclination to challenge and work within a culture that is dynamic and self-directed.
NOTE: For all positions posted by Cellibre, education is listed as required but can be overcome with experience. Please do not let education requirements dissuade you from applying for positions for which you think you are qualified on that metric.
Key Responsibilities
● Manage and oversee the analytical chemistry lab and its personnel
● Develop and implement analytical methods as needed for new projects using a wide range of techniques, including but not limited to HPLC, LCMS, GC, GCMS, and NMR
● Maintain equipment and perform repairs as needed for maximum uptime
● Coach and train other scientists at the company in sample preparation and analysis workflows
● Collaborate internally to provide deep insights into analytical results
● Execute technology transfer to external CMOs and partners as needed in scale-up operations
● Prepare and implement SOPs for QA and QC for chemical products
Additional, but not required skills
● Experience with flash chromatography or small molecule purification, preferably at pilot scale or larger
● Experience with analysis of common fermentation byproducts such as sugars, organic acids, amino acids, FAME analysis, residual solvent, and water content
● Experience with structure elucidation of small molecules using MS, NMR, and other methods
● Familiarity with Agilent hardware and software for HPLC and GC instruments
● Experience with screening large sample libraries (>10,000) with UHPLC techniques
Required Experience
● PhD or MSc with at least 3 years of experience, preferably in pharmaceutical or biotech industries
● Expert in method development using HPLC and GC to separate, quantify, and characterize organic molecules
● At least 1 year managing direct reports
● Complete understanding of HPLC, GC, and MS instrument operation, troubleshooting and maintenance
