Qualifications
1) A minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, guidance counselor/school psychologist (or combination thereof).
2) A Master's degree with specialization in the areas of counseling and psychology.
3) Advanced graduate work in the area of school psychology.
4) Valid New York State School Psychologist certification.
Reports To
1) Director of Special Services.
2) Works in a staff relationship with Central and Building Administration as well as instructional personnel.
Areas of Responsibility
Students
1) Consults with students, teachers, administrators, parents or person(s) in parental relationship, and other support personnel concerning learning strategies and/or emotional support for students experiencing difficulty in their educational program.
2) Works closely with staff members when collecting information regarding a student.
3) Determines the appropriate evaluation tools to use when attempting to answer questions posed by school personnel and/or parents or person(s) in parental relationship relating to a particular student.
4) Administers psychological testing in a timely manner to students referred for evaluation.
5) Assists teachers to develop remediation techniques and programs which are applicable to particular classroom situations.
6) Provides counseling for individuals/small groups as the need arises within the limitations established by District guidelines and/or applicable law and state regulations.
Committee on Special Education
1) Serves as a member, or alternate member, of the District's Committee on Special Education (CSE).
2) Assists the Chairperson of the CSE, as directed by the Chairperson, in the planning and administration of the activities of the Committee.
3) Evaluates students referred to the CSE as assigned. Evaluation is to include classroospecial area observation of the student.
4) Assists in the recommendation for placement of students referred to the CSE.
5) Communicates results of evaluations and recommendations to the administrator, appropriate staff members and parents or person(s) in parental relationship.
6) Assists parents or person(s) in parental relationship with visitations to observe recommended placements.
7) Completes triennial evaluation for all students classified by the CSE.
Curriculum
1) Serves as a resource person in various areas of the curriculum.
2) Assists as needed, in the coordination of special and regular education programs (Part 100/Part 200).
Records/Reports
1) Maintains appropriate records/reports of work with students and contacts with staff, parents or person(s) in parental relationship and outside agencies.
2) Supervises the use and confidentiality of records.
3) Submits an annual report.
Personal Growth
1) Strives to keep informed of current educational trends and practices.
2) Maintains a working relationship with public and private agency resources.
General
Other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or the Director of Special Services.
Terms of Employment
1) Eleven (11) month assignment.
2) Salary in accordance with the negotiated agreement.
Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Special Services.
