New York State Senate – Technology Services, Security Access & Documentation Unit

The New York State Senate Technology Services Department is seeking a detail‑oriented, technically skilled, and security‑minded individual to join our Security Access and Documentation Unit. This team plays a critical role in safeguarding the Senate’s financial and administrative systems by ensuring user access is properly managed and potential risks are identified promptly.

As an Application Access & Documentation Specialist, you will play a key role in the security administration of the Senate Financial Management System (SFMS), as well as several other Senate and State applications. In this role, you’ll combine analytical thinking with strong writing skills to maintain user access, perform audit‑related activities, and assist in developing clear, accurate procedure‑related documentation.

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Grant, modify, and remove user access to the Senate Financial Management System (SFMS) and other Senate/State applications.
  • Perform security audits by reviewing access reports to verify proper permissions have been granted, offboarded employees’ accounts have been removed, and to identify potential access risks.
  • Maintain internal procedure guides and other documentation that support staff in understanding their responsibilities.
  • Create and maintain user‑based online help files by collaborating closely with programmers to understand system functionality.
  • Produce the Senate‑wide monthly technology newsletter.
  • Take part in projects that help you build new skills, support broader team goals, and offer growth opportunities beyond your day‑to‑day work.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to quickly understand and translate complex concepts.
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy, especially in access‑related work.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills for producing clear, accurate documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-service mindset.
  • Strong conceptual, critical‑thinking, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Location: Albany, NY

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $50,000

Pay: $50,000.00 per year
