NAU Information Technology Services (NAU ITS) is the university’s official technology department. ITS provides technology services, products, and support for the Lumberjack community.

About the Position

Northern Arizona University is seeking a self-driven, multifaceted full-time programmer to join its Advancement | Foundation Team in the Information Technology Services (ITS) department. This position will work extensively with the Advancement | Foundation staff to develop solutions both individually and with team members to solve unique problems across multiple projects. The team focuses on Microsoft Azure, DevOps, ASP.NET, JavaScript, Microsoft SQL Server, and HTML. A thorough understanding of Query methodology and data structures is required. The candidate should possess strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
The successful candidate will join a very fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Projects will vary from challenging, and long-term products to short custom written queries and reports. If you like problem solving complex, technical challenges, this job is for you.

Responsibilities Include

50% - Cloud / Application Development

  • Participate in planning, testing, and developing new applications to support Advancement | Foundation.
  • Assist develop applications using ASP.NET / C#, and other languages using Azure DevOps and CI/CD Pipelines.
  • Develops programming logic for new applications and analyzes and modifies logic in existing applications.
  • Helps ensure system improvements are successfully implemented.

  • Analyzes requirements, tests, and integrates non-routine application components.
  • Helps ensure system improvements are successfully implemented.

25% - Application Support

  • Support existing code base and provide troubleshooting and resolution of code defects.
  • Configures, codes, tests, debugs, documents, and implement software applications.
  • Provides operational support for production applications

10% - Custom Queries and Reports

  • Work with Advancement | Foundation and other NAU staff to design, develop, and deliver custom and standard business reports.
  • Collaborate with Business intelligence staff to develop queries / stored procedures to extract complex data from internal systems.

10% - Customer and Documentation Support

  • Provide administrative support for Advancement | Foundation applications including user management and general training.
  • Generate and maintain documentation of new and existing services and applications.

5% - Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • On-call duties may be required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • 2 years of programming or enterprise application system experience.
  • A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • ASP.Net, JavaScript
  • Relational Databases – Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle
  • Other languages including C#
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript and associated tools and techniques
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Self-motivating and able to work independently
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Experience with Microsoft DevOps development environment and Microsoft Azure functions
  • Strong experience with either Oracle PL/SQL or Microsoft SQL Server
  • Strong understanding of query design, stored procedures, and development
  • Strong background in at least one web development language
  • Knowledge of application configuration and development best practices
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 API integrations
  • Proficient Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, responsive techniques, SEO principles, and cross-browser compatibility issues.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript development
  • Familiarity with PCI compliance related to application development
  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Demonstrates problem solving, organizational, and analytical capabilities
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to balance competing priorities
  • Experience working in a higher education environment is a plus

Compensation

  • Salary range begins at $67,714. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
