The Appointed Person (AP) is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, supervision and safe execution of lifting operations in accordance with ADNOC’s HSE-OS-ST19 standard (Lifting & Hoisting Operations) and related policies. The AP ensures all lifts — simple, critical, complex or tandem — are carried out safely, with the right equipment, competent personnel and appropriate controls in place. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review and approve Lifting Plans / Method Statements for all lifts, including routine and critical/complex lifts. SKC Management+2ADSO Group of Companies+2
  • Conduct or ensure Risk Assessments (e.g., lifting hazards, ground conditions, exclusion zones, environmental factors) and integrate into lift planning. Talent Training Institute+1
  • Ensure all lifting equipment (cranes, slings, shackles, rigging gear, etc) are certified, inspected, fit-for-purpose, maintained and used correctly. ADSO Group of Companies+1
  • Select the right crane(s), rigging configuration, banksmen/signallers, operators and ensure all personnel are competent (and hold valid certifications). LinkedIn+1
  • Establish, enforce and monitor exclusion zones, safe lift execution, supervision during lifting operations; intervene and stop work if unsafe conditions arise. LinkedIn+1
  • Liaise and coordinate with HSE, QA/QC, site engineering, crane suppliers, rigging team and other stakeholders to ensure lifting operations integrate smoothly with other site activities (SIMOPS, schedule, etc). Qureos
  • Ensure compliance with ADNOC’s Permit-to-Work system, lifting procedures, company policy, local/international regulation (e.g., LOLER, API standards) and internal audits/inspections. Energy Jobline+1
  • Conduct pre-lift and post-lift briefings, verification of load weights, stability, ground conditions, crane set-up checks etc. TÜV SÜD+1
  • Maintain documentation and records: lifting plans, risk assessments, inspection and maintenance records, certification, incident / near miss reports, lessons learned.
  • Provide training, coaching or mentoring to crane operators, rigging team, banksmen, signalers on best practices and safe lifting operations. Reliance Recruiters
  • Continuously improve process: review lift execution, identify improvements, feed into best practices, share lessons learned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification (Bachelor’s preferred for senior roles). ADSO Group of Companies+1
  • Minimum 7 years relevant experience in on-shore/off-shore lifting operations (oil & gas industry preferred); within that at least 5 years in a supervisory role of lifting operations. Talent Training Institute+1
  • Valid certification of “Appointed Person – Lifting Operations” (APLO) from an ADNOC-approved training provider; refresher every 3 years. Talent Training Institute+1
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards: ADNOC HSE-OS-ST19 (Lifting & Hoisting), LOLER, API, crane load charts, rigging/slings, RCI/LMI systems etc. Energy Jobline+1
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills; ability to make decisions under pressure, ensure safety compliance.
  • Proficiency in English (written & spoken) and good understanding of technical documentation.
  • Offshore experience may be required depending on project (for offshore lifts) and familiarity with offshore environment. SKC Management
