The City of Avondale is Accepting Applications for Aquatics Maintenance Coordinator in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department
This position will remain open until filled. First review of applications will be July 6, 2026.
Oversees the upkeep, maintenance, installation, and repair of equipment at the Avondale Aquatic Center, fountains, and splash pads to ensure optimal functionality, safety, and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include servicing and repairing pumps, motors, chemical feeders, and related plumbing and electrical systems; performing routine cleaning and safety inspections; and maintaining chemical and supply inventories.
Occasional duties involve minor construction and repair work (e.g., electrical, plumbing, painting, concrete, welding), pool deck and equipment setup for events, and furniture movement. Additionally, this position supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates Aquatic Specialist staff, supports marketing initiatives, and assists with budget development and monitoring.
Essential Functions
Performs daily testing and treatment of public pool water to maintain balanced pool water quality, proper chlorine, and pH balancing, and monitors total dissolved solids.
Monitors chemical usage and keeps records of supplies and test readings.
Keeps pools clean, which involves vacuuming, hosing decks, cleaning restrooms, performing safety inspections, and maintaining a revolving inventory of pool chemicals and supplies.
Performs mechanical inspections and minor repairs in the following areas: electrical, plumbing, welding, and carpentry.
Develops, recommends, and implements long and short-range planning regarding ongoing maintenance, improvement, and usage of the aquatic facility.
Inspects and assesses aquatic and splash pad facilities to maintain quality and safety and implements appropriate methods to address facility needs.
Prepares inventory of supplies, equipment, and chemicals needed. Coordinates with City staff to order materials and supplies from contract vendors.
Plans projects and provides technical expertise regarding assigned operations.
Assists with setting up and storing the facility, equipment, and supplies.
Responsible for overseeing City fountains, splash pads, and Aquatic Facility, and other facility locations as assigned.
Provides administrative support by answering phones, interacting with the vendors, inputting purchase orders and petty cash amounts, ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment, and procuring equipment and supplies.
Ensures proper supervision and setup at designated locations to ensure the safety of all staff and attendees. This includes weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Assists in planning the annual program budget. Forecasts expenses; authorizes payments; monitors expenditures; recommends adjustments; evaluates program performance; develops and implements procedures for improved efficiencies; seeks grant opportunities.
Supervises, trains, motivates, evaluates, and promotes teamwork with all staff.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of swimming pools and associated equipment. One (1) year of supervisory experience is preferred.

A valid Arizona Driver's License at the time of hire.

Possession of Certified Pool Operator’s (CPO) license or Aquatics Facility Operator’s (AFO) certification, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.

Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon hire.
Preferred
Bilingual skills in Spanish are highly desirable.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
