Archaeology Lab/Brooks Museum Internship - Fall 2025

/Duties
Internship #1 (Archaeology Lab); Archaeobotanical research on samples from active archaeological excavation. Identify ancient seed remains from samples. Generate database and report on foodways from archaeological site.
Internship #2 (Archaeology Lab): Artifact/specialized object professional photography. Create a digital database of archaeological artifacts from an active archaeological site and create a database. Create a digital database of ethnographic/archaeological materials in archaeological lab and create a database.

Days/Hours Needed
40 hours during the semester is required. It is expected that the student will work 3-4 hours per week on a schedule designed around classes and other work requirements.

Internships #1-#2: Archaeology Lab: Moffett 120

Required Qualifications
  • for all internships, must be a current SUNY Cortland student
  • For all students, interns must be familiar with the archaeology lab
  • Internship #1: Familiarity with archaeobotanical techniques and seed identification.
  • Internship #2: Familiarity with the materials stored in the lab. Object photo experience.


Preferred Qualifications
All internships: Major in either Archaeology or Anthropology

Physical Demands
  • Internship #1: ability to spend long hours working at an object photography station.
  • Internship #2: ability to spend long hours working at a microscope.
