Design and planning
- Define project objectives: Meet with clients to understand their needs and objectives for the building.
- Develop proposals: Create feasibility studies, design proposals, and preliminary cost estimates.
- Create detailed plans: Produce scaled drawings and compile specifications, often using computer software.
- Ensure functionality and aesthetics: Develop ideas that consider the building's intended use, environmental impact, and aesthetic appeal.
Project management
- Stay within budget and timeline: Keep the project on schedule and within the allocated budget.
- Collaborate with professionals: Work with and liaise with other construction professionals and contractors.
- Manage contractors: Review contractor payments and manage all necessary documentation, including change orders.
Construction oversight
- Ensure quality and compliance: Make sure all work is carried out to specific standards, building codes, and regulations.
- Monitor site progress: Conduct site visits to check on project status and report on progress.
- Address issues: Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and other supplemental documentation as needed.
Post-construction
- Oversee project closeout: Manage the final stages of the project, including substancial completion and project closeout.
- Update drawings: Update construction drawings to reflect the final built reality.
