Operating at the forefront of aerospace and space, cybersecurity and digital identity, we’re driven by a mission to build a future we can all trust.

Present in India since 1953, Thales is headquartered in Noida and has other operational offices and sites spread across Delhi, Gurugram, Bengaluru and Mumbai, among others. Over 2200 employees are working with Thales and its joint ventures in India. Since the beginning, Thales has been playing an essential role in India’s growth story by sharing its technologies and expertise in Defence, Aerospace and Cyber & Digital sectors. Thales has two engineering competence centres in India - one in Noida focused on Cyber & Digital business, while the one in Bengaluru focuses on hardware, software and systems engineering capabilities for both the civil and defence sectors, serving global needs. The Group has also established an MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) facility in Gurugram to provide comprehensive avionics maintenance and repair services to Indian airlines and support the growth of the local aviation industry.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced Architect to lead the technical vision, architectural studies, and system design for a large-scale IoT ecosystem encompassing high-volume device operations, distributed microservices, data platforms, and mission-critical workflows. The Architect will collaborate with engineering, product, operations, and customer teams to ensure the platform remains scalable, reliable, secure, and aligned with evolving business and regulatory requirements.

The role requires a strong blend of technical depth, hands-on design capability, and stakeholder leadership, including the ability to guide developers, resolve complex technical queries, support production scenarios when required, and interface with sales/pre-sales teams to represent product capabilities to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

Architecture & Design Leadership
  • Own and drive end-to-end architectural studies for new features, platform enhancements, and system modernization initiatives.
  • Design scalable, fault-tolerant, cloud-native microservices architectures suitable for high-volume IoT device ecosystems.
  • Define domain-driven models, API strategies, event flows, and data-management patterns across the platform.
  • Establish architectural guidelines, design patterns, code-quality rules, and best practices across teams.
  • Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies (e.g., AI-augmented development, graph DBs, vector stores, observability frameworks, orchestration engines).

2. Technical Governance & Team Enablement
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to development teams; resolve escalated design and implementation queries.
  • Conduct design reviews, architecture reviews, and technical audits to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Mentor engineers and senior developers; support competency building in distributed systems, cloud, and performance engineering.
  • Partner with product managers to translate business requirements into feasible and scalable technical solutions.

3. Production Engineering & Reliability
  • Collaborate with operations/SRE teams to ensure high availability, performance, and operational visibility.
  • Review production incidents; contribute to root-cause analysis and long-term architectural fixes.
  • Promote observability practices, including metrics, tracing, structured logging, and proactive monitoring.
  • Ensure the platform adheres to enterprise security standards, compliance requirements, and data-governance policies.

4. Customer, Sales, and Pre-Sales Engagement
  • Act as a technical representative in customer discussions, workshops, and solutioning sessions.
  • Support sales and pre-sales teams with architectural inputs, integration strategies, and feasibility assessments.
  • Present platform capabilities and roadmap to customers and partners in a clear and authoritative manner.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to structure proposals, RFIs/RFPs, and solution specifications.

5. Strategic & Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Align system evolution with organizational strategy, scaling targets, and operational KPIs.
  • Contribute to long-term architectural roadmap including cloud adoption, data platform evolution, resilience, and AI-driven automation.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering practices, design rigor, performance tuning, and DevOps maturity.
  • Encourage innovation through technical prototypes, POCs, and research on emerging paradigms (AI agents, LLM integration, multi-tenant governance, automation frameworks).

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills
  • 10–15+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering with at least 5 years in architecture roles.
  • Strong expertise in distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native applications (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot / Quarkus, REST APIs, and asynchronous processing patterns.
  • Deep understanding of NoSQL databases, large-scale data modeling (Cassandra/ScyllaDB preferred), and high-volume data processing.
  • Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes), CI/CD ecosystems, and secure deployment practices.
  • Strong grounding in system performance, throughput optimization, caching strategies, and multi-tenant architectures.
  • Knowledge of IoT protocols, device lifecycle management, telecom-grade flows, or eSIM standards is a strong advantage (but not mandatory).
  • Hands-on experience designing for high availability, resilience, failover, and observability.

Soft Skills & Leadership Competencies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a structured approach to complex technical decisions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work across multiple teams and drive alignment on architecture and design decisions.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with experience supporting sales and customer engineering discussions.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities.

Preferred (Good to Have)
  • Exposure to AI-augmented development workflows, vector DBs, knowledge graphs, or agent-based automation.
  • Experience working in telecom, IoT, large-scale subscription systems, or device-orchestration platforms.
  • Certifications in cloud architecture or enterprise architecture frameworks.

Why This Role Matters
This Architect position plays a pivotal part in shaping a platform that manages millions of devices, supports mission-critical operations, and continuously evolves to meet stringent reliability, security, and performance expectations. The role blends deep technical leadership with cross-functional influence, directly impacting customer experience, platform stability, and long-term product success.
