policy and regulatory analysis; and social, cultural, historical, political, economic, urban, and ecological analysis of project areas.*Synthesize research findings into clear, well-structured presentations, design narratives, and final reports with recommendations.*Develop research-based architectural and urban design proposals represented through sketches, diagrams, computational models, concept drawings, physical and digital models, renderings, animations, and other visualization methods.*Apply computational design methods to support architectural analysis, generative design, scenario testing, and design visualization, including parametric modeling and scripted workflows.*Prepare production and presentation materials to communicate design intent and research outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.*Plan and participate in stakeholder engagement activities including meetings, workshops, charrettes, presentations, and other collaborative engagement formats.*Coordinate and maintain project data, digital files, and documentation, ensuring proper organization, version control, and backup of electronic and physical materials.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, planners, researchers, faculty, staff, students, and external partners.Oversee, supervise, and mentor student employees and project assistants as a core component of OPSE¿s applied research and design work, providing guidance on research methods, design processes, professional standards, and project execution.Support student learning and professional development through hands-on mentorship, task coordination, feedback, and modeling of best practices in design research and professional conduct.Assist the supervisor in overseeing project budgets, timelines, work plans, deliverables, and reporting requirements; support coordination of student project teams to ensure work is completed in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with project scopes and agreements.Assist in the preparation of research reports, design documentation, and project deliverables.Keep abreast of architectural, computational design, and digital visualization trends, tools, products, and systems.Other duties as assigned.*Denotes Essential FunctionsMinimum Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in architecture, architectural studies, environmental design, urban design, planning, or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for design-related mastery in architecture; landscape architecture, urban design, service design; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of built environment principles and best practices as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with architectural design.Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software.If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.Proficiency in computational and parametric design workflows, including three-dimensional modeling in Rhinoceros 3D and visual scripting using Grasshopper 3D.Experience preparing digital renderings, animations, or computationally driven visualizations to support architectural and planning projects.Demonstrated ability to manage digital design files, datasets, and project documentation in structured digital environments.Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as required by project schedules.Desirable Qualifications: Advanced or professional degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Computational Design, or a closely related interdisciplinary field.Experience with public-interest design, community-based research, or campus-embedded planning and design projects.Experience with the local, social, cultural, ecological, and regulatory context of Hawai'i.Demonstrated graphic and visualization skills as evidenced by a portfolio of architectural and computational design work.Experience with motion graphics, animation, or video editing using Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable tools.Experience with digital fabrication, prototyping, or model-making using fabrication lab equipment.Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, or managing student employees or early-career designers in applied research, design, or professional practice settings.Experience supporting design education, student mentorship, or design-research studios.Evidence of leadership or participation in design outreach, education, or advocacy initiatives.Ability to work collegially and effectively in small, interdisciplinary team environments.To Apply: Click on the "Apply" button on the top right corner of the screen to complete an application and attach required documents.
