The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Construction (Anne Arundel County) is currently recruiting for a Areawide Utility Engineer (Transportation Engineer IV) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. All eligible candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications by the closing date. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. Nature of Work: This position coordinates, monitors, and reviews all aspects of utility involvement within the SHA, including right-of-way, agreements, design and mediation between the SHA and the utility companies to eliminate or minimize conflicts with existing/proposed utilities and SHA’s proposed construction; ensures that SHA policies, procedures and standards are met; secures the state and federal funding for utility relocation costs on SHA projects, and administers third party cost responsibility involving utility work incorporated in SHA projects to ensure utility relocation costs are equitably distributed. The Areawide Utility Engineer reviews, coordinates, oversees, negotiates, and administers information technology and telecommunications contracts and task orders performed under SHA's "Resource Sharing Policy."

Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four (4) years' experience in professional engineering.

Selective Qualification: One (1) year of experience in professional construction and/or design project work to include any aspects of utility planning, policies/procedures, design, coordination, relocation, and/or scheduling.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability).

Notes:

1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
