LAW DEPARTMENTARRAIGNMENT PROSECUTORAppear at felony and misdemeanor arraignment and capias hearings in 36th District Court and recommend appropriate pretrial release conditions including cash and personal bonds and tether restrictions and appear at all hearings on select state law misdemeanors in 36th District Court.This is a Temporary Administrative Special Services (TASS) position.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAppear daily at morning and afternoon arraignments of defendants charged with felonies and misdemeanors in the 36th District Court and recommend appropriate pretrial release conditions.Prepare for arraignments by reviewing the police file and conferring with the Officer-in-Charge, the defense attorney and learning the facts of the case; review the criminal history of the defendant.Formulate a recommendation to the Court/Magistrate for the pretrial release conditions of the defendant within the framework of Michigan law and based upon the facts of the case, the criminal history of the defendant.Maintain an ongoing record of bond recommendations and decisions in arraignment cases.Appear on select state law misdemeanors from arraignment through sentencing.Make plea offers on the select state law cases consistent with Michigan law and the policies of the Wayne County Prosecutors Office.File appropriate pretrial motions in the select cases and respond to defense motions.Handle the trial of select cases, both bench trials and jury trials, and appear at sentencing hearings.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of Michigan Court Rules and Michigan statutory law pertaining to bond and pretrial release.Knowledge of Criminal law and procedure.Knowledge of the 36th District Court settlement with the ACLU in its lawsuit involving pretrial release.Proficient in evaluating the strength of the prosecution’s case.Proficient in developing pretrial release recommendations.Effective in oral argument before a Magistrate of Court.Ability to display independent judgment and maturity.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Experience in the trial of criminal cases.
